since 2 or 3 updates ago my pi4 with ropieee is down everytime i want to use it. I use it semi-daily. What i notice tis totally unresponsive, i need to unplug it and let it reboot. When rebooted, that takes sometimes up to 10 minutes before it’s available again. Since this behavior started i had multiple updates, also taking 10-20 minutes. I already changed positions, bought a USB WiFi dongle with a huge antenna. But to no avail so i thought lets ask you all. Before the ‘suspect’ update the ropieee was super stable. In the same location, with same hardware. That’s why i suspect the software. Love to hear tips!
Edit: i restarted it 60 minutes ago, did the april update and 20 minutes later it was up. After 20 minutes of listening the device is no longer available in the network.

I think this is coincidental, and you have either a network or hardware issue.
Locate the RPi so you may use an Ethernet connection, and test again.
Update: i replaced the whole pi4 board, kept the DAC hat, alas no solution. Wired seems always available, so the problem is wireless. The wireless network is powerfull at the location the pi is at. Using the dongle or the onboard WiFi does not matter, both are unreachable after certain time. The power management is off. I read that the power supply must be adequate or the pi might shut down the WiFi function but both power supplies (from both boards) are bought with the boards and as i mentioned the problem has only arisen end last year.
So when it’s down again i plugged in the wire to test. Get connection, then i can access it and use it. Disconnecting the wire loses the connection once again. So the WiFi does not come alive after wiring it. Restarting does reconnect the WiFi.
I have multiple wifi’s but none of them solve the problem.
Can you scan again? Did you change something on your router?
After you configured the wifi interface, you can actually see (do not disconnect the cable) in the network tab by clicking on ‘More Info’, if the interface is actually configured.
Hi Harry, i have no clue. I did not change hardware, nor provider. But recently my thermostat is also losing connection frequently whilst the wifi is up.
Any ideas? I appreciate all the help and understand it if you do not have the time.
Not sure if it helps but the cable is normally not there. I use it only to debug. I have used the pi for 1,5 years wireless. So even though it is apparently not configured correctly it did work a long time.
When the issue is at hand the info shows all fields ‘unknown’. When i scan, choose the WiFi, set the password and then let ropieee reconfigure, the fields are all filled. 5ghz, -70 dBm signal, 108.0 MBit/s and WPA2-personal.
Does this help?
Update: when i change to another wifi i get 292.5 MBit/s and -67dBm signal. I did find WPA3 on that WiFi and was able to change this to WPA2. I will check tomorrow morning again for connection.
One step further, this morning the pi was still available via wifi. Since this issue has surfaced i had the daily restart configured so it may be a false positive. I disabled the daily restart and will check when i’m home tonight.
I’ve fiddled around a bit. Put on the WiFi dongle which made the connection from 300mbs to 800mbs, but then the unit was no longer available after some time. The dongle felt warm so i removed it and configured the onboard wifi unit again. Since then it seem to be up, sometimes the gui takes a second of 5~8 to respond whilst normally this is in 1 second. But at least it responds.
I’ll leave it like this the coming days so i can determine if this is consistent.
