Ropieee-NG BETA - chat about the new release currently at 2022.01 (RC)

The good news is the Pi3 upgrade went well.

But afraid a reboot still sets the Katana volume to zero (I normally keep this zone fixed at 100)

Super! Will try tomorrow!

Can you send me another feedback?

Yeah removed that because I was unsure if people were using that.

Should it be back?

Let me know if you want me to send another before and after rebooting…

It would be good. Particularly for those who have the computer somewhere else. I guess the power down button goes through a proper shutdown procedure as opposed to just pull the plug.
If it’s not too much trouble, it would be nice to have it back.
Thanks!

@spockfish Harry as you can see the temperature of the pi4 is in most cases quite high. Can you please think about a throttling possibility for the cpu at the end of the ng project (it has to be stable before we start to try throttling)? I guess the cpu power is more than enough for the ng software.

Those temperatures are not high. They are far inside the Pi’s specs.
Throttling is on the list, but not for the NG release.

Thanks Harry

Yes please, I’ve used shutdown button whenever needed to power off.

Im seeing the odd 4.019 beta devices turning up but its rather intermittent…most times none and sometimes one or two

2021.11.8

  • kernel update
  • shutdown function is back again
  • improve update speed
  • initial support for the Zero W 2

Although NG is not about introducing new functionality, new hardware is an exception I guess. Plus I could not resist

@GregD I’ve tried your use case of restoring volume control upon reboot with an IQaudio Amp HAT, but that works. So I still don’t see why your Kantana does this different. I’ve added some extra logging to the feedback, so maybe you can send me another feedback after this update?

Thanks all, in general I think we’re getting pretty close!

Oh. I’ve also updated the images, otherwise you can’t try it out on a Zero W 2:

Which of the two img should be used with Zero W 2? Pi3 or Pi4?

Oh sorry. Good question! Pi 3.

Keep in mind: this is preliminary. It requires an USB ethernet dongle for initial setup, after settting up WiFi you can remove that.

Is the Flirc Remote supported in NG ? I see in screenshots a greyed “Remote” item… not implemented yet ?

Nooe. Last functionality missing

This update didn’t go well for me.

The pi4 devices didn’t reboot so stayed on the old version. This feedback is before rebooting via the web gui 1f56d0b9fb623ca2

The pi3 is stuck after an hour on wrapping up!

After manually rebooting they all came up on the new build.

Sadly the Katana with volume back on zero. I’ve set back to 100 and just rebooted - and it just reset back to 0 again.

My DAC2HDs don’t have this zero volume issue, I guess I could try some of the other HATs (allo digone/ hifi berry digi plus / PI2 design aes) if you’d like.

I guess upgrading is not a common operation - but I didn’t have any upgrading issues with the previous production builds - so IMHO this doesn’t yet match the reliability of your previous production code.
