Scheduled Backups Failing To Complete (ref#AQQCOD)

Hi @connor

Now six days since I last heard from you. A reply this side of Christmas would be appreciated.

Scheduled backups now seem to be completing, as shown below, which is good news:

When using focus, and I set the criteria to Corrupt tracks in Inspector, it shows nothing, as shown below. Your diagnostics seems to suggest I have corrupt files, so where are they?

If you could advise I would be grateful.

Best regards

Alan

Now 13 days since I last heard from Roon. Might it be possible to receive an answer to the above question?

A

16 days. Think Roon are going for a new record in poor response times. Happy New Year by the way.

A

That’s three weeks now mate. Any chance you could offer me the courtesy of a reply? This is getting ridiculous.

A

Hello @Alan_Meldrum ,

Happy New Year! Apologies regarding the slow response, we are still catching up on the queue following the holiday break, your patience here is greatly appreciated.

I am glad to hear that the backups are now completing, I’ve looked over the latest log package from your Roon Server and there doesn’t appear to be any errors of note.

If you navigate to Roon folders browser, do you by any chance see the corrupt files there? The logs shows the below files with issues. If you wish, you can upload them to our media uploader and we can try to import them on our end to see if we can get the corrupt status to show up.

Thanks!

Hi

It strikes me that you either have a workload that you cannot stay on top of, or you don’t have enough staff to deal with the issues you are facing. Either way, your turnaround is pretty woeful, and I’m being polite.

Folders show nothing but the watched folder, as shown below

I will attempt to upload copies of the files for you to look at. As it is only ten files in total, would it be beneficial to just remove them from the watched folder? I mean, it’s only ten tracks, and if these ones are causing issues I’m quite happy to remove them and see if they turn up on Qobuz at some point in the future, when I can access them again. Not much point on keeping them in my library if they are creating problems. If you could advise I’d be grateful.

Regards

Alan

Files now uploaded.

Hey @Alan_Meldrum,

Thanks for the follow-up, if you navigate to Roon Settings>Library>Skipped files, do you see them there?

An easy way to test this could be to add all the tracks to a separate playlist, and then attempt to make a Qobuz copy and see if you’re able to match the tracks with the streaming service.

You can certainly move the tracks into a different location (other than the current watched folder) and perform a library cleanup, which should remove them from Roon. Then, see if you run into the same backup failure - we’ll be monitoring for your reply!

Hi

Tracks previously identified did show up in Skipped files, as shown below:

I’m currently engaged in a cleanup/clear out of my iTunes library, so when I’m finished doing that I’ll remove the skipped files from the watched folder, check for availability on Qobuz and see if things run more smoothly after the troublesome tracks have been ditched. As you can see from the screenshot below, scheduled backups are still a bit hit and miss. Scheduled backup to Disk 1 did not complete this morning, but scheduled backup to Disk 2 did. Are these corrupted files likely to impede a sussessful backup at present?

Regards

Alan

Hi

Further to my message of four days ago :face_with_raised_eyebrow:, I have since cleared out the offending files from the watched folder in the SSD connected to the Nucleus. As you can see from the pic below, the skipped files list has cleared, although Roon does still seem to be trying to find a match for one of those files. Not quite sure what’s going on there:

Having done the clear out yesterday, I thought I’d see how the scheduled backups had fared early this morning, and you can see from the pic below that the backup to Disk 1 did not complete. Sometimes one backup completes and the other doesn’t, and it isn’t always the same backup that fails - they seem to take it in turns.

If you could share your thoughts regarding these two issues I would be grateful.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

Just a hunch, but I’m wondering if the Sandisk 1 is failing because it’s not finished performing the backup before Sandisk 2’s scheduled backup begins. Might suggest spacing the scheduled backups further apart to see if it makes a difference while you wait for support to chime in.

Hi @jb76

Thanks for your input. Average backup time (when it completes) is around 16/17 minutes for each disk, so I’m not sure what would have Disk 1 still trying to complete its backup an hour after it started, when the backup for Disk 2 commences. I’ll switch the backup start time for Disk 2 to 5am though and see if it has any impact. Thanks for the suggestion.

Best regards

Alan

I agree that normal backup times are fairly short in duration once the initial backup is performed. Are you still able to perform a successful manual backup to Sandisk 1 to make certain that it is functioning properly?

Hi

Yeah, whenever I do a manual backup it usually completes without any problems. I’ve kind of stopped doing this, as at least one of scheduled the backups seems to be completing every day. Not sure why the manual ones complete ok but the automatic ones seem to take turns at failing. Your guess is as good as mine.
