Hi @leon.ziberna,
Welcome to the Roon community! I’m sorry a problem is what brought you here for thew first time. Here are some troubleshooting steps for you to try:

Adjust Display Scaling on Windows:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings
  • Scroll down to Scale and layout
  • If scaling is set above 100%, try lowering it to 100%
  • Restart Roon and see if the issue persists

Manually Set the Display Resolution

  • Go to Display settings
  • Ensure the resolution is set to 3840x2160 (4K) or a lower 16:9 resolution
  • If it’s set to a custom resolution, try switching to a standard resolution

Update GPU Drivers

  • Check for any pending Windows Updates
  • Manually update NVIDIA/AMD/Intel graphics drivers via their respective websites

Disable High DPI Scaling for Roon

  • Right-click on the Roon shortcut
  • Select Properties > Compatibility
  • Click Change high DPI settings
  • Under High DPI scaling override, check Override high DPI scaling behavior and set it to System (Enhanced)
  • Click OK and apply changes

Try a Different Connection Method

  • If using HDMI, try a different HDMI port or cable
  • Test if connecting the PC directly to the TV (instead of through an AV receiver) changes the behavior

Reset Roon’s Display Settings

  • If none of the above work, try resetting Roon’s UI settings by renaming the “gfx” folder in Roon’s database:
    1. Close Roon
    2. Navigate to:
    • Windows: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Roon\Database\Registry\Client
    1. Rename the “gfx” folder to “gfx_old”
    2. Restart Roon

Let me know if any of the above help!

Hi Daniel,

setting resolution to 3840x2160 solved the problem. However, unlike with other applications, everything on the roon screen (e,g. fonts, close/maximize/minimize icons on the top right of the screen) is very small, even if I change font in settings/setup/font to very large. I tried to check/uncheck Program DPI and Hing DPI scaling override settings and change the latter to System (enhanced) but the full screen/maximized problem reapears if both are not checked and override set to application.

Hi @leon.ziberna,
Thanks for trying that. I think the next step here is to bring this case to our developers to investigate. I cannot give you an exact timeline but we will keep you in the loop with any updates.

Describe the issue

Hi everyone,

I get this error message saying "Your screen resolution is too small to run Roon" which forces me to use Roon on full screen mode on my Windows PC. My screen is my LG 4K TV.

I already tried extensively the solutions suggested by the following links:

https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/screen-resolution-is-too-small

https://community.roonlabs.com/t/screen-resolution-is-too-small-to-run-roon-windows-pc/134954

To no avail.

In the display settings of my computer I have the following:

Desktop resolution : 1920x1080
Active signal resolution : 3840x2160

Also I have no way to change manually the scaling and resolution (those fields are greyed out in the Windows settings).

Is there anyway to solve this issue in my configuration ?

Many thanks

Hello @nathan.moussu,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support, and welcome to our community!

Could you kindly clarify whether you’ve already tried clicking “Change settings for all users” to see if that resolves the issue?

Would you kindly clarify also, do you have any scale option in the display settings?

Additionally, you can try the following steps:

1. Click Start
2. Type Troubleshooter in the search bar
3. Click on Programs
4. Select Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
5. Click Next
6. Choose Not Listed
7. Enter the path to the application

You may also try selecting “Help me choose the settings” from the setup file you’re using to install the application on the network location.

Hi,

  • Yes I changed the settings for all users.

  • I ran the troubleshooter wizard several times with all the suggested root causes, no success

  • As for the Windows display settings I got it wrong the first time actually I can change the scale and resolution of the screen. If I set the resolution to recommended 3840x2160 then I stop getting the “screen resolution too small” message. However issue is not solved as the app display is now comically small and almost unreadable from my sitting position (other apps and the rest of the OS are displayed properly, so the issue seems to come from the Roon app).

Thanks

Hello @nathan.moussu.

To help us investigate further, could you please let us know what scaling percentage is initially set for your display in Windows? You can check this by following these steps:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and choose Display settings
  2. Scroll down to the Scale and layout section
  3. Let us know what value is shown under “Scale” (e.g., 100%, 150%, 200%, etc.)

Hello @vadim

Under 1920x1080 resolution the scale is 150%.

KR

Hi @nathan.moussu,

And if you set the scaling to 100%, do you still run into issues?

With 100% scale I stop getting the message about screen size however the display, as with full 4K resolution, gets way too small so not a solution either

Hi @nathan.moussu,

Thanks for letting us know!

What is the specific model you’re currently using? We’ll need to share this information with our development team for further investigation.

Thank you!

Hi,

TV is LG OLED65C24LA

Hi @nathan.moussu,
Thanks! We’ve added that information to the ticket. Once we have more information from our developers we will update you here.

Hi everyone,

We’ve merged reports of this issue into a single thread. To summarize, users encounter scaling issues when using a 4K TV as a monitor with Roon via HDMI. Changes to DPI and resolution settings don’t resolve the problem. Certain configurations prevent Roon from displaying at all, while other configurations result in font size too small to read.

QA is investigating this issue and we’ll comment as information becomes available. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.
