Android Room remote app on Pixel 9 Pro XL is janky when scrolling.
When scrolling through albums or other lists in the Android Room Remote app the experience is pretty janky. Sometimes it just stutters, other times it jumps by whole rows.
Thank you for the post. For developers to take action on this report, we’ll need to know the specific hand gesture/finger motion in addition to the resulting scrolling behavior on the screen.
This is easiest if you can take a video from another phone or device demonstrating the scrolling motion and effect in Roon on your Android Pixel 9 Pro XL. If you cannot use another device to film a demonstration of the finger gesture, then a screen recording can occasionally suffice, provided you thoroughly describe the finger gesture/motion as well.
Just uploaded 2 screen recordings which has an overlay of the touch inputs. One of which shows the scrolling jittery during the scroll motion, the other shows the scroll “jump” as the motion is coming to an end.
Detailed description: when scrolling through different views (most apparent in album view) using both touch and slide up/down, or flick motion the scrolling is quite jittery. The screen recording also includes scrolling through an album list on the TIDAL app and it’s a much smoother UX.
In the screen cast it only jitters by a couple of pixels but it’s enough to be a little jarring. Sometimes it’s much more than that. My phone has 120hz refresh rate, I’m wondering if the Room app isn’t taking advantage of that.
Also, the scroll acceleration/deceleration when doing a flick motion seems a little unintuitive. Sometimes I flick what feels like the same amount and sometimes is scrolls down 2-3 rows, and other times it’ll do 5-15 rows.
Hi @MattR,
Where did you upload the videos? I checked our media uploader site but couldn’t find anything from you. Please upload it here and let us know what the file is called.
Re-uploaded files with names RoonScrollingJumping.mp4 and RoonScrollingJank.mp4 (I believe it prepends my username MattR to the files as well). The scrolling jank seems to be present throughout the app.
Thanks for sending the videos over, we were able to receive them successfully. Can you please confirm is there any change in behavior if you try to change your refresh rate? Typically you can do this in the Settings → Display menu, here is an example video:
There unfortunately does not appear to be that setting on my device, only developer setting for showing the current refresh rate and forcing max refresh rate.
I have confirmed that the screen is refreshing at 120hz when scrolling in the Roon app.
Try starting a screen recording and then opening Roon while recording. Does the scrolling improve?
We’re zeroing in on the root cause, there’s likely work we can do to improve the specific symptom in your video. Thank you for sharing. The team has an investigate ticket in for this thread.
Confirmed that closing Roon, starting screen recording, then opening Roon improves the scrolling behaviour (especially the flick to scroll is noticeably better and no longer jumps around).
Thanks for performing that test, we have added this info to the investigation ticket. The ticket has been submitted for developer review, meaning that this may take some time to be reviewed.
There aren’t any additional details needed at this time, so we will go ahead and close the thread for the time being, and if any other questions arise after the developers have reviewed the case, we will re-open the thread and reach out once more.
Thanks again for your report, and thank you in advance for your patience as the ticket progresses through the development queue for review.
