I understand that, and surely what one considers a bad, adequate, good, or great result must depend on one’s library and history. But I think if threads like this shall be more than just venting, it would be good to be precise about results (in case Roon is reading and it’s of any worth to them). I think most of us are trying to give feedback in the hope that it helps, so mine is just one additional data point.
Not sure if @Gareth_Irwin really gets NO Frank Zappa for „frank z“ or he just thinks the order/priority in the results should be different for him - which is certainly valid feedback, just not the same thing.
I have only one Zappa album in the library, so maybe that’s why he’s farther down?
Mine doesn’t make complete sense, but some. The first one is a literal match, so ok although not of interest. The second one I don’t see a relation to me. „A. Frank G." (and his duplicate, now merged) is in Chokebore which is a favorite artist of mine. „J. Frank P.“ seems to be a mislabeled „A. Frank G.“ as he is credited on another Chokebore album in Roon. Frank W. Ockenfels is a major photographer credited on lots of albums, many in my library, so makes sense too.
I find hilarious that you have Frank Zander, too. I thought maybe they show it to me because of Germany. He’s one of the worst „typical“ German singers ever. Very successful decades ago because Germans have the worst pop taste
I see, but I guess he’s such a major artist that it’s inevitable that he gets listed far up with this search, unless you have other Franks that should push him done - like my Chokebore guy does.
I don’t have Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes at all in my results. Never heard of him.
No, I don’t think you are. It is difficult to balance, I believe, because if search for a partial string I don’t just want to see artists I already know. But with 100 albums I would think he deserves a space on the first results page for you
I replaced it with a more representative one because the other one was actually not that bad for him. A German charts TV show just like the ones we were forced to grow up with
God, this one is so, so bad, and just like back then every week.
I’m surprised too, because it doesn’t know it for me. And given that I also have the Nirvana album, and a whole bunch of PJ Harvey ones, I would expect similar results. I’m also puzzled as to how ‘polly’ relates to a bunch of The Divine Comedy albums.
In previous iterations the search frequently produced no results where typos or miss-spellings were present.
Results and order/prioritisation of results were still frequently difficult to interpret not helped in the days where it was effectively searching library and streaming as separate processes and melding the results.
I have an artist in my library (and on Qobuz) Garett Brennan. For some reason I forget about him from time to time and when I remember I can’t recall what combination of double letters are used in his name. I.E. is it two ‘r’, ‘t’, ‘n’ or what. Anything but perfect spelling produced zero results.
Now I have a good chance of finding him - albeit not necessarily listing him as an artist first but listing tracks and albums.
For me I prefer where we are now than where we were. If this is a softly softly approach then hopefully our feedback will, as @Suedkiez hopes,
help inform the Roon team.
I have been a life member for some years now and have no regrets
[Polly] Paulusma founded indie-folk label Wild Sound in 2012, and sold it in 2016 to One Little Independent as a folk imprint in order to do a PhD in relations between song and literature. Her albums collectively have achieved international critical acclaim; she has toured the USA, the UK and Europe supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, The Divine Comedy, Joseph Arthur and Marianne Faithfull.
Depends on context, no. If you were about to search for Polly Paulusma, you may have known. Roon can’t read our minds. And I don’t know The Divine Comedy and don’t have them in the instant search.
I mean, if I type “polly” into the browser search window, I also get instant search results for various pollys that I don’t know what they are.
And not sure if it did miss “all” the obvious ones. We can’t expect instant search to always contain anything the might apply to 4 letters we typed
