I have been using the Lumin T2 as my DAC/Streamer with Roon. Today I connected the PS audio DirectStream Mk2 DAC. I changed the settings in the Lumin app from analog to USB output and have connected the Lumin and the PS Audio via USB. When I first hooked everything worked fine. A bit later I was browsing around in the Roon settings for information about filter settings etc. and I ended up in the Device Setup screen that shows the T2 as the bridge and the PS Audio DAC as the audio device. I think I made a selection to change the icon for the PS Audio and I selected the correct one, clicked OK and left the screen. Now I have no audio coming from the DAC. Apparenty Roon is still treating the T2 as both streamer and DAC. Now I cannot seem to undo this. Still no sound. When I connect the output cables back the the T2 and change its output setting back to analog…it works from the internal T2 dac but I cannot figure out how to get it recognize the T2 as just the streamer and the PS Audio as the DAC. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have a call in to PS audio support and waiting to hear from them… Thanks
BTW I know the problem is associate with Roon because I can play files from my NAS. Somehow I must have accidently changed a a roon setting that I am unable to correct…without help
It should not matter as long as Roon is sending data to T2.
In Lumin app, turn off Roon Ready.
Disconnect DAC from Lumin. Power cycle both Lumin and the DAC, wait for Lumin to show the progress circle on front panel, switch the DAC to proper input, then reconnect it to Lumin.
After Roon starts, in Lumin app change output to USB, then enable Roon Ready.
Recheck Roon settings. Make sure Roon DSP engine is disabled and you’re not doing any upsampling in Roon.
(With Roon Ready already running, changing the Lumin output will be problematic. Try manually toggling Roon Ready manually and wait a few seconds after changing output.)
Peter, thank you for the suggestions. Still not working. All of the steps you suggested were clear except the very last sentence regarding manually toggling Roon Ready in the lumin app. Im not sure I understand nor followed those steps in the correct sequence. Could you please clarify. Thanks
Randy
BTW, could this issue be related to the fact that I am using a streamer/DAC instead of a dedicated streamer? Would this be an issue with a dedicated Lumin streamer?
Should I reboot Roon using the red icon on the top right of the screen or reset roon database and settings?..or restart server software from the WebUI screen?
I think it is fixed. At least it is working now. What has brought the sound back is a Roon setting in MUSE that disabled upsampling. It was set to enable. As soon as I set it to disable the sound came back. I am not sure exactly what is going on here with regard to the MK2 and why this setting is apparently so crucial (at least in my situation). Maybe someone can help me understand. I’m just trying to understand my new DAC a little better and would prefer my learning not have to involve as much trial and error. Thanks for you help.
This is likely not a good idea even if it works. You bought PS Audio DAC for its sound signature based on its internal DSD upsampling. A prior upsampling using Roon not only defeats this purpose, but you’ll likely be degrading the sound quality because you’re resampling twice.
The reason Roon upsampling did not work most probably because you did not properly configure it, such that it was trying to upsample beyond the interface limitation of the DAC.
