Setting up watched Folder on Mac

The Support team have been flagged, so this thread is in their queue to deal with. I’m sorry for the delay.

Thank you.

Hey @Chris_McGolpin,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report - sorry to hear about your issues connecting a network share from your iMac to your Nucleus.

To confirm, it looks like you’ve set up file sharing properly for your music folder - if you click into ‘options’ when you have the music folder selected (in your file sharing settings) do you have the following enabled as well?

Sometimes, Roon can be blocked by the subfolders leading to your Music folder. In this case, it may be good to set up the same share settings to any subfolder leading to your Music folder. This typically looks something like :

Machintosh HD (ignore this)> Users>username>Desktop>Music folder

Try one of the below steps to see if you’re able to connect the network share:

  1. Set up the same share permissions to both your Desktop folder, as well as your username and Users folder

  2. Or, temporarily move your Music folder and nest it under either your username folder, or Users folder.

Let me know if you’re able to connect after trying the above! :raised_hands:

Hello Benjamin - thanks for your note. I can do the first bit and can show you the screenshot showing where files are. Share permission has been set. Where everything is falling down is the syntax for the share path which does not work plus the export Library.xml from music has been done per instructions but just appears to be text that is all. So I don’t follow your Users>username etc.
Regards,
Chris.

Hey @Chris_McGolpin,

Got it, thanks for the follow-up!

To confirm, you’ve set up the same share permissions for each subfolder holding your ‘Music Folder’?

What I meant with this was to temporarily re-locate your Music folder. Rather than keep it on your desktop, test out moving it and nesting it directly under your Mac Username folder - it would look like:

Test out moving your music folder to this location on your Mac, and re-set the proper share permissions. Then test out adding the network share, and share a screenshot of how things are looking.

We’ll be monitoring for your reply, thank you!

Thanks for this. I am away on holiday just now but will look at this on my return Benjamin.

Perfect - we’ll be here when you get the chance to give it a try. Enjoy your holiday in the meantime! :+1:

@benjamin just landed back so give me too early next week to get to this and revert.
Regards,
Chris.

Hi @Chris_McGolpin ,

No worries. When you’re ready to pick this back up, just let us know, thanks!

@noris Sorry I have been tied up and hope to get to this early next week.
Regards,
Chris.

Hello, @Chris_McGolpin,

We look forward to further updates.

I cannot add a folder under my user folder like you have done here. Not sure why. I have a Music folder but that seems to have stuff presumably determined by the Mac / iOS itself. Any reason why it will not let me do this (based on your iOS knowledge)?

Hey @Chris_McGolpin,

Thanks for the update! It could be the case that you might not have the correct permissions — even on your own user folder.

Here is how to check the permissions on your user folder:

  • Right-click the folder
  • Click Get Info
  • At the bottom under Sharing & Permissions, make sure your user has Read & Write
  • Click the lock icon to make changes if needed

And here is an optional next step for allowing yourself the proper macOS system permission if the above doesn’t help:

  • Open Terminal
  • Run the following (replace yourusername with your Mac login name):
 sudo chown -R yourusername:staff /Users/yourusername
This restores your user as the owner of all files/folders in your home directory. Then try again to create/move a folder.

Another area to review in regard to your macOS system settings:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access
  • Enable Full Disk Access for Roon

Let me know if this helps! :+1:
