Hi - I thought Roon set up was straightforward - really not so, spent most if yesterday and today trying to sort. The instructions that are detailed do not work as described - I tried my own variations and managed to access my Melco NAS.
I now have another issue related to music stored on my iMac which also happens to copy and sit on iCloud. I have tried everything for ‘Add network share’ so this music file on my desktop can be seen by Roon. Nothing works at all. The folder is set to shared but the file path variations are not working at all.
I have looked at some of the posts on Roon already and tried those - again nothing is working my end. Will keep trying but if anyone has any input - gratefully received.
By way of update and also looking at some other spots still not working.
my mac is called chrism-imac which the iMac confirms in the ‘sharing’ screen. File sharing is on for the folder - Music on Mac Desktop.
So network share location put in as smb://chriss-imac.local/Music on Mac Desktop (along with username and PW for my Mac). This did not work so tried all variations - replaced gaps with - and also tried variations mentioned on forum - e.g. take local out. All done and came back with could not connect to share.
Attached image - showing location and file / path names confirmed by iMac.
A bit confused. Is the folder you want to watch on the same computer that is running the RoonServer? If so, then you are not following the right directions, those directions are for setting up a different computer to read music from that Mac.
If you want to set a local folder (on the same computer) you just go to the Settings/Storage page, Click Add Folder at the top of the page. Browse to the folder on your computer, and click the Select This Folder button.
Hello Big Dan.
Thanks for your reply. Sorry to confuse.
I have a Roon Nucleus and am using an iPhone and / or iPad to control playback etc.
Also use the iPad for set up for music folders for Roon to read.
My music folders are in two places - main source is Melco NAS and have some legacy files on my local iMac desktop. Two things - the folder is on the desktop of the iMac but also backs up to iCloud (just detail should make no difference), I have sorted Melco NAS access after a lot of effort but the iMac folder access is just not happening.
Let me know your thoughts.
Regards,
Chris.
Try with the ip address to your Mac instead of the name. Then point to the folder containing your music.
When you setup file sharing on your computer, the Mac shows you the smb address to use
for what’s it worth, I have had exactly the same experience with the Roon instructions on this issue. I weighted in here just so you know you’re not crazy. I tried every combination as well. I eventually gave up. In my case I have a new M$ Mac mini that has a doc which contains an internal SSD I have my music files stored on. Those files in the doc are connected to the Mini via USB .I also have a Nucleusone with internal storage. My goals was when I rip CD’s it do it to the Mini Internall ssd as it then can be done using DB power. I was hoping the roon internal storage would then pick this up as the watch folder and update keeping both in sync. I know you can rip directly to Roon but only in Flac
Sad.
But the pitch of plug and play is not quite like that.
There are many aspects of what it provides that are a god send, so much better than using multiple apps. The integration of radio too. I have just filled in some missing data for a Richard Hawley album that did not name the artist. Manually inserted it and now it shows up with his other albums.
I am still unable to get this to work. Web comes up with procedures that are dated and Roon manual still not helping.
Does anyone know how I get help from Roon.
I have emailed the UK distributor so see if he can help.
This thread indicates you might require assistance from Roon technical support.

Your responses will auto-generate a Community thread in the appropriate section.
PS, I assume that you followed the directions given in this Help article? You might want to post a screenshot of any error messages that you get when using Roon’s Add Network Share screen…
@Geoff_Coupe Thanks for reaching out.
Yes that is the procedure I have followed and is not working my end. I have posted screenshots already. The error message is the same non matter what file path I put in. I will pop in a technical request.
Regards,
Chris.
Just posted a technical support request but also done this before and it posts to the community when I actually think I need Roon help. I have searched the community followed instructions there and no luck either.
Creating a technical support request also creates a post in the Support category of the forum, which is monitored by the technical support team, and who will follow up with you there.
BTW, I asked you to post a screenshot of Roon’s Add Network Share screen showing the error message that you get - that will be useful information for the support team.
@Geoff_Coupe yes and just done again it again. I have detailed my setup and the issues. Oddly at the bottom of the screen it has a blue submit button AND an enter instruction - confusing. Tried both methods. I do not get any notifications back indicating a ticket.
