Showing (off) your Bicycles

So great to see so many in this community that love two wheels and two speakers! Here’s my tome dedicated to riding!

@Matthias_Stuker I have seen many of these waterrowers. Didn’t realize they also made stationary bikes. Nice to see somebody making more “spouse friendly” exercise gear!

@LarryMagoo I used the race the “Amateur Cup” at Big Bear back in the 90’s on a Klein Attitude. Wonder if we ever bumped into each other? My body was never built for XC and I should have invested in a DH bike (which I’m actually far better at) but never ended up racing DH. My body is probably grateful for that (as it stands I’ve had a number of injuries over the years anyway).

@RPlace sorry about the clavicle. Definitely a rite of passage for most hardcore cyclists (both road and mountain). I did it early in my riding career but had too many other nagging things since.

Here’s a shot from yesterday’s ride with my favorite ridding buddy! He joins me most rides that don’t involve roads. It’s also his favorite activity (he goes nuts if he sees us dragging bikes out or putting on our kit).

On that note, if any in the community ever come to Oahu or Park City UT and want to ride let me know.!!! I’m happy to play tour guide and can shuttle up to 5 of us on Oahu without using any dead dinosaurs.

Our local trail (where the car is parked) hosted the 1996 Grundig World Cup DH race. More DH/Enduro riding here but there are some good XC trails on other parts of the island as well.

Finally, our family spends most of our summer and most fall breaks in Utah with some of the best riding in the world.

Riding with in-laws

Older brother sending it

Thunder Mountain near Bryce Canyon

Also spent some time riding in Scotland. Got to ride the course with the pros for Fort William World Cup DH race (will try to find link to vid later) but I did get to chase Tracey Hannah (2019 UCI World Cup DH Champion) down the course, which was incredibly humbling!

Selfie with Tracey prior to riding Fort Wiliam in 2019

I’ve seen more amazing scenery and met so many great people thanks to this hobby and I’m always happy to “share the wealth”. Also happy to provide beginner surf lessons for any visitors to Hawaii. Got a quiver of boards and don’t mind taking newbies out!!!

Or if you just want to enjoy some good music with a nice dram I’m always down for that!

Aloha!!!

Hi @Eric_Taylor

Excellent read, thank you for sharing.

I think you should start letting us fellow Roonies come visit.

Hi @AMT, North East Victoria, Australia. I can see why you would ask though, it was a low light wet day, photo taken at Tawonga Gap, 880 metres above sea level. It snows here, we are about 30 Kilometers from Falls Creek ski resort. These photos are both taken from the same lookout about 800 metres away from the first photo. In the sunny photo you can see the town of Mt Beauty at the base of the hills.

We all cycle to some degree in our family. I’m the nutter who got everyone into it.

My twin girls bikes. They’re 6 and love their bikes.

My eldest daughter is 10, this is now too small for her but she loves smashing it around the garden.

This is the wife’s bike. She has only ridden it once in the 15 years she’s had it. I say ride, I mean push. We went to the Lake District on a very tame 8 mile ride. Total elevation 250 meters. Nope, she made 1 mile in and instead of going back she wanted to push it the rest of the way.
Being the loving husband, I still take the p1$$ out of her for it. It’s a little too long for my eldest, but not for long.

This is my mistress. She gets a wee bit dirty from time to time.
Rear tyre flat as the valve leaks. It lasts a month, I’ll change it soon. She and I have been to every corner of the British Isles. We once did a 100 miles in 2.5 days. From the Herefordshire boarder to Machynlleth.

love the tires!

Thanks @Matthias_Stuker, this bike is my all terrain beast. 29inch mtb wheels, titanium frame, carbon fork. Great for exploring the hills around here. I even tried hooking it up to a trailer I found in the bush. I also have a road bike I ride a lot and a mtb I don’t use as much these days. (My skill level is low and I keep being more ambitious than my abilities allow without skin removal).

Stiffee is probably an apt name, considering this topic is basically cycle porn
Actually, it’s great to see these machines and the affection that people have for them and also the great photos and locations. :sunglasses:

I haven’t gotten onto my bike in over six months, after falling off a flat roof and wrecking my knee. I think i’m going to be giving it a go in the next few weeks.

Jesus man, lucky it’s only your knee that’s jiggered!

Rest and ice.

Ice for the rest of the whiskey.

I’m not a Whiskey person unfortunately. I was tweaking a satellite dish that had moved during strong wind. 18 year old me told me I could scramble up and then just drop down, as it’s not that far…In reality I hit my knee on the way down - ouch. If I had bothered to get the ladder, well, another story. Wife called me a D*ck H#ad. Not for the first time. :grinning:
