Showing (off) your Roon setup - description and photos [2015-04 .. 2021-03]

Hi Flere,

you are right, the set-up works well without the Aries. What it does is delivering a better quality audio signal to the Tambaqui. After reading a lot about what a good streamer can do I still was a bit on the fence, so I tested for about a week before buying. My experience: more resolution, wider image, better definition particularly in the bass.

and sooloos.

I recently brought a few Sooloos control units out of retirement. The learning curve for Sooloos is a little less steep for some.

do they still update?

Afraid not 2.538 is the latest. Seems as though this chap has found a solution to use C15 as ROON Remote and Endpoint with a SSD that has been reformatted with a stripped down, modified widows 10 install

amazing! good looking turntable too.

My Roon Setup

I have meant to do this last year, but things kept changing. Now I have settled down a bit.

My Roon server is a custom-built AudioLinux OS machine from Larry at Pareto Audio. The computer resides in a rack in my basement powered with two HDPLEX linear power supplies. There are three ADNACO PCIe Fiber runs out of the server, One to the Network USB interface, and two to each of my primary endpoints. Allo Shanti supplies provide DC power to the PCIe → USB boards at each location. I have found that this method of connecting USB to my DACS and network offers the best sound quality I have had to date.

My office headphone system is currently a Hugo 2 with my RAD-0 headphones.

In the living room, I have a re-purposed Victrola Console holding the equipment. The DAC, turntable, a NUC, and a Mutec MC-3+ USB sources feed the Heavenly Soundworks FIVE17 speakers in the living room. I am still evaluating DACs for this system. I have a loaner Chord DAVE in the system with AudioQuest Water balanced cables to the speakers.

The Windows 10 NUC has a 24 inch Viewsonic touch-screen display. One USB port on the NUC connects to the Mutec, which feeds the speakers via Mogami AES. The NUC provides access to everything from Soundcloud to YouTube. It is also a Roon control point.

The Rega Planar 8 turntable and Musical Fidelity pre-amp feed the speakers with RCA interconnect from BlueJeans cable.

The FIVE17 speakers have multiple inputs and will automatically switch to any active input. All you have to do is pause playback for 15 seconds and then start the new input.

The system design is stable except for picking a DAC for the living room.

One other twist is that I am testing some Remastering software that is in a closed beta. This software upsamples and performs noise shaping. To accommodate this, I am expanding the storage on the server to 18TB this week. I have found this to be very beneficial on the Chord DACs.

Here is a post about my Victrola from a while ago. Some changes since this was done:

I think the one for about $250,000 would work fine…though you will still hear the stylus dragging on the vinyl…

Wouldn’t be much good if you couldn’t.

Tell us more about the active speakers. I did check out their site.

Hi, first post to this board. About 20 years to get to this level, some new, some used pieces, but pretty happy with this lot now. My biggest challenge has been speaker placement, the Dynaudio C1’s in my experience are very sensitive to room placement.
Box list:
Dynaudio C1 Platinum
Modwright KWA100SE power amp
Modwright SWL 9.0 preamp (5687 tubes)
T+A DAC8 DSD
Antipodes CX and EX combo, USB to DAC

Hoping to scratch my “wanna-hear-some-stylus-dragging-noise” itch for way less than that :crossed_fingers:

G’Day,

Well further to my previous post about my amplifier build.

Here are some speakers and stands I recently built, the speakers are based on a Paul Carmody Classix II design and I went for a retro look. The stands are similar to a photo I saw on this thread. They are walnut. I also added a couple of build pictures.

I have also finished my DAC case.

Set this up about 2 weeks ago and have not stopped smiling.

Changed our backend from HP 8460p as a MOCK to virtualised Roon Server on an Ubuntu Server

(The host itself is a HP ProLiant DL380 Gen8 serves several VMs)

I like your “Jefferson’s Rules”.
