Showing (off) your Roon setup - description and photos [2021 .. 2022]

The Great Heil AMT is an excellent tweeter. It does weigh nearly 20 lbs. From the first time I auditioned the AMT1b I was determined to use this driver, albeit unidirectionally at a higher crossover. I only once ever fried the diaphragms, quite by accident. Always have an extra pair of diaphragms on hand, but it’s likely not happening again!

Kef wired or wired lessssss? Thanks! And cheers good sir!

Bit of a Shed update. Now moved my Roon Core to Mac Mini 2012 16GB/512 SSD rebuilt to Linux/Ubuntu (so much faster and more reliable than M1 mini on OSX not had to touch it and no drop outs ever). It is hard wired to network.

Thanks to community for advice on Linux which was all new to me but actually really easy.

I have also used the Sub Out on the Node to the Q Acoustics Sub and the Rega iO managing the Q3050’s for 2 channel. The Beresford switch allows to Switch to the Sony for 7:1 for movie watching (and can use same sub) I can control the Roon via iPad/Phone or Apple TV app via Projector.

wired; OG, not meta.

a clearer view:

the update is moving the speakers off the credenza onto solid steel stands, made possible by a change to the library system, which I’ll post further about.

Nothing worse IMHO than being served a beer in a glass branded wrongly

A year’s worth of curating a system. Started from scratch after moving into our new place 1/3 the size of our old house and having to rethink everything.

Here are the nitty gritty details.

Love the Blondie art. Your outlets are ready for a hospital bed when you age a bit

Thanks man, great artist with a ton of street/pop work. I’ve got a couple of pieces from him but my Blondie request kick started his venturing out into celeb pieces. ArtRevolts on instagram.

change upstairs; out with the Special 40s, and their stands, in with Dali Oberon 5:

the Special 40s are wonderful speakers, but need some space (imo) to be at their best. here they were less than 12" from the back wall, and too close together.

the Oberon 5s are extremely unfussy about placement, no toe-in required, and work well near the back wall. they are also a more modest physical presence than the dynaudio, with their stands. Dalis are only 32" high, and ~6" wide.

and bass extension is greater (just a bit), which is nice when the system is used for video, which is most of the time.

amp is an NAD M10 (OG version).

803s? your office has more meters than mine.

Yes. The room isn’t great but the room correction helps a ton.

As an apartment dweller, how do your neighbors respond to you playing music? It’s usually bass frequencies that cause issues.

Very interesting! Do you prefer the Dali? The Special 40’s are highly regraded but the Dali Oberon 5 seem to be a diamond in the rough.

Thanks !!
