Edit, Rescan album, has always been fast, (<= 1 sec) now it takes 8 seconds to scan album with 1 or 2 aac files (37-58MB each) or cd rip of flac files, started happening with this build, running roon server& app on m2 airbook sonoma 14.8.3 music library is on airbook internal ssd, ran firstaid->ok, amorphousdiskmark similar to sep2024,

Describe your network setup

airbook wireless -> isp router in house, this equipment has been the same for that past 3 years. *During* the slow album rescan, continuous ping to 8.8.8.8 data: 278 packets transmitted, 278 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 22.604/29.607/43.044/2.228 ms

Hello @Andre747,

Thank you for the detailed report.

An album rescan in Roon depends on multiple factors, not just file size or local system performance. The time it takes can vary based on:

  • The amount and complexity of metadata embedded in the audio files
  • Existing metadata already associated with the album and related artists in your library
  • Current load and response time of Roon’s metadata services
  • Network conditions at the time of the rescan
  • Ongoing background database activity on the server

Because of this, it’s normal for rescan times to vary — even significantly — between albums or between different moments in time.

The increase you’re seeing (from near-instant to several seconds) falls within the range of expected behavior given these variables, especially for mature libraries with richer metadata. For that reason, this is not something we would treat as a defect or bug.

We understand it can feel unexpected when behavior changes after an update, but based on the information provided, everything is operating as designed.

If you start to see broader issues such as persistent UI freezes, playback failures, or database errors, please let us know and we’ll be happy to investigate further.

Thank you for your patience and for taking the time to document your setup so thoroughly.
