Smart playlists created from bookmarks show incorrect track counts [Roon Investigating]

The following smart playlist was created from a bookmark. The playlist incorrectly shows 75 tracks; when I edit focus the focus dialog correctly shows 1132 tracks.

If I create the smart playlist from scratch both the playlist and focus show the correct number of tracks.

I have about 18.7k tracks, the vast majority of which as stored on a Drobo NAS with a few tracks from Tidal. Roon runs on a Nucleus over wired connections. This issue occurs on all Roon Endpoints (Windows PM, iPhone, iPad).

One other thing that might be relevant: I experienced a database failure-to-load a few days ago and had to restore a backup. My database has since successfully backed up, which I understand means no corruption was detected.

Thanks for the help.

Hey @Doug_Wieringa,

Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention! We’ve made a ticket for our team to investigate further, and I should have more information to share next week.

We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Nucleus, and did see the database issue you mentioned above. It appears that corruption was caused due to being out of memory:

Warn: [Broker:Misc] [broker] validation failed: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

This is odd as you’ve mentioned you’re only running 18-19k tracks across your library. If possible, could you share a screenshot of the webUI of your Nucleus? This may give us some additional clues as to what might be going on. Here’s more info on how to access the webUI:

Note that we only saw this error trace back on 12/31, and haven’t seen anything since performing the backup restore.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

Thanks, @benjamin – really appreciate the quick reply. Here is the screen shot.

I’m not sure if this is relevant, but prior to the corruption I did some management of Roon genres – mainly reassigning sub-genres to other top-level genres. That’s something I have never done before, so possibly it may be related to the memory issue…?

@benjamin: an update. The Blues 2 playlist that I created yesterday that did not exhibit this issue shows an incorrect track count today. As my screen shot above shows the track count was accurate yesterday. I have not altered or changed this playlist.

Hey @Doug_Wieringa,

Thanks for the update and screenshots!

It’s definitely something we’ll add as a note to your case! Based on your webUI screenshot, your database doesn’t seem wildly large, certainly not enough to trigger an OOM error. Are you seeing any crashing or poor performance overall?

In regard to the focus filter smart playlist track counts, as a next step can you please:

  1. Create a new smart playlist using the focus filters, and export it via excel or csv
  2. Create a duplicate, non-smart playlist from the same focus filter, and create an export.

Upload them below:

We’ll be monitoring for your reply!

Hi, @benjamin Files are uploaded as requested.

I have not noted any other performance issues with Roon.

Thanks @Doug_Wieringa! Our team was able to reproduce, and have a ticket in the queue for development to dig in further. I’m not able to comment on timelines in terms of when a solution will be pushed, but I will certainly keep you in the loop as things progress.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime! :raised_hands:
