Thank you very much!
Apart from the server restart option in @econaut’s link, the simple and surefire way to restart all software on a computer is to reboot the computer. In the case of ROCK, it’s anyway the server restart that can take time (for some people with very large libraries) and the restart time of the whole OS is irrelevant
Thanks, as well.
@econaut Provided the link that showed me how to restart the server via the Web UI.
I have been waiting for this feature, thank you!!!
Just checked it, and the article’s screenshot for desktop/tablet looks nothing like my Setup screen. Obviously the option to access the web UI is not present for me.
Edit: Workaround is to go to Settings > Display and copy the IP-adress from there, and remove everything starting with : and after that. This will take a struggling user to the web UI.
How does your setup screen look like?
In the link it’s described how to obtain the IP address on any platform.
Here is my screen/tab. I tried the option mentioned where you type in http://rock and it also didn’t show anything. Didn’t try that option but with local at the end, maybe it would have worked.
My workaround works though, so mentioning it here if anyone else struggles (I have had this struggle before, and it is maddening it is so hard to find this web UI).
Mine looks like yours. Have you tried the “Find” button at the top?
That’s what works for me.
I then set a bookmark in my browser for that IP address which is how I usually access Roon OS / ROCK.
Off topic in this thread.
I believe that some of your difficulties can be attributed to your choice of Server Name.
http://rock wll not work because your server name is not ‘rock’. You have renamed it to ‘Roon Optimised Core Kit’.
Also, as a Roon Server Name, I think yours has a couple of issues:
- It is too long to be easily used.
- It is not a valid hostname for use in linux (or http urls). Linux hostnames can contain only the a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and the hyphen character ('-"). Thus I imagine that yours is getting truncated at the first space character - ie ‘Roon’. You might find that http://Roon works.
Thank you both. You both could be right. I guess now this is offtopic here, but I don’t understand why the screens are different, they look almost nothing alike.
Issue has been resolved, via my workaround.
The screen shot that you posted above is from the Roon applications Settings → Setup tab. It is not the web ui.
The RoonOS WebUI is only available on Roon Nucleus and ROCK/MOCK systems and looks the same or similar to this one
From Roon Help - RoonOS WeUI:
.On Nucleus and ROCK installs, this is the UI that gives access to the Roon Server restart functionality.
Headless (no keyboard and screen) Roon Servers built on top of linux may have their own Web UI but that is, usually, unrelated to Roon although some may still be used to manage the Roon Server application to a some extent.
Ehum, yeah, I know. The issue was not finding the web UI?
My compaint is how hard it is to reliably find this information if one doesn’t know where to look. There was a good post linking to the support page of how to access the web UI, but it contains incorrect screenshots (at least not matching what I see).
I had to use a workaround instead of reliably using the information in that article.
Generally pretty easy. If you set a valid Server Name (in the screen shown in your screen shot) you can generally just use http://<ServerName>. In my case, the ServerName is actually set to ‘roon’ so I do indeed use http://roon to get to the Web UI offered by the Roon Server (which in my case is not the RoonOS UI - but the mechanism is the same).
If this doesn’t work, as in your case, then you can find the ip address on the Roon ARC setting page like:
Then you can just use http://<ip address>. In my case, the Roon Server ip address (as shown in the screen shot), is 10.212.153.202 so I would use http://10.212.153.202 (if my system was a ROCK install [which it was at one point] or a Nucleus).
I agree I completely dont understand why they are talking this up? I can do the same thing with filters. And if i want a ‘smart playlist’ thats what roon radio (or tidal auto play when I sometimes just use that instead because its better at discovery by a long way…) is meant to be, just add the button from ARC into normal ROON to restrict it to your own library only… so confused about the hype.
Not sure why you are replying with this information, as I already described the workaround where I got my own IP.
My whole point is that it should be clear in the documentation, and it is not. Will try to send this feedback directly to Roon, instead of bickering about it here.
You said that http://rock did not work - I explained why - the changed server name.
You used Displays settings page to get the ip address and then described having to remove the port number and path components from the URL to get the URL to the WebOs. The use of the Roon ARC settings page that I described is simpler. Just copy the ip address directly to your web browser.
I had the same issue after update. My Roon server is running on a QNAP NAS. I had to restart the Roon server service on the QNAP. Now the smart playlist entry is visible.
