I’d suggest purchasing a new drive. But I’d suggest transfer them to your laptop first and then to a new drive. Drive to drive would be a lot slower I believe.

If I can’t transfer to my laptop, are you saying I could transfer everything to new hard drive with no problems?

I’d possibly attempt trying to us a Linux distro to see if you can access the drive. You don’t need to install, let’s say Ubuntu as it can run from a USB stick. Depends on you experience with Linux.

The errors could be down to Windows 11 and the age of the drive, rather than the drive itself.

Question, I am able to see and play all files thru my Cambridge streamer. But these are not recognized by Roon. Should they be?

Ok I installed Ubuntu on laptop for now. So just plug in the HP? Anything else needed to do with Ubuntu?

Hey, Ubuntu worked. Opened up the music files on the laptop. But, music files are stuttering, why would that be?

My only suggestion is the transfer speeds of the drive.

Try updating

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

My thoughts are the drive and not sure why it works with the Cambridge streamer.

If access fully via Ubuntu, I’d transfer via Ubuntu to another drive.

It’s playing and skipping in windows media player, is that where it should be playing in Ubuntu?

In the application section on Ubuntu you find terminal

You can also launch it via

Ctrl + Shift + T

Or

Ctrl + Alt + T

Ah, you need to create a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu.

I’d use BalenaEtcher instead of Rufus.

You’ll need a spare USB thumb Drive.

If you’re unsure about how to do this it might be worth seeing if you have a family member to assist you.
