So slow importing local files

Bought a new SS Hard drive, decided to go that route. In process of transferring the music files to it from the old one. But, it’s a slow process. I did listen to some tho, no skips or stutters. Then, once done, I’ll have to import to Roon, another slow process. Wish there was a speedier way to do these things.

I’m hoping for you, that with the new SSD drive, probably USB 3.0, you’ll notice an improved performance when importing to Roon. :crossed_fingers:

Keeps us updated.

Yep. Thanks

UPDATE-ok, so I successfully copied some music files from old external HD to new one. Also, Roon sees the drive and copied the files in about 1 minute. So that was good. But now, new problem. There is still plenty of space on the new HD, but it will no longer receive any more files from old drive. I am up to letter T, but it won’t even receive 1 even file any longer. I was copying and pasting in batches, and that was working ok. But now it won’t work.
Any ideas?

Good news, sort of.

Do you get an error message?

When you say plenty of space, how much space?
How much is left?

No error message. About 1.25 TB space left. It looks like it is going to transfer but doesn’t. Tried only 1 file at a time, still won’t transfer. I was able to transfer many at a time before.

Do you have another drive to try and transfer 1 of the remaining tracks/files?

Have you tried slipping the T’s and head to the US? Could be a read error, but your likely to get an error.

Mmm, so it looks like any band that starts with The won’t transfer. The Ts after the The’s are transferring now. How do I get The’s to transfer?

Hmm, how many are there with The?

Is The at the start of the file names?

Yes, there are many. You know, The Beatles, The Who, and so on. I have many bands that start with The. Just guessing about 200.
Yes, The is also the name of the groups file, so the file that says The Beatles, has bout 10 folders with the album names

I would speed up the audio analysis by selecting:

Settings → Library → Background Analysis Speed → Fast (max number of core))

You can find how many cores you have by running the Task Manager → Performance tab

I am trying to transfer music from old external hard drive to new external hard drive. Does your advice apply to this? It looks like you are talking bout importing to Roon, right?

Even you copy files from one place to another, Roon still perforrms audio analysis.

Oh ok. Thought that Roon had nothing to do with transferring music from old external HD to new one

But Roon only does it if you select Settings → Storage → Add folder.

I already added the folder to storage

So the audio analysis is still going on or not. If it stops then you are done, otherwise you may want to speed it up full speed by selecting Fast (with the max number of cores).

Thanks, changed to fast, 14 cores. I’ll report back

If Sean’s suggestion doesn’t work, any other options?

Adding cores didn’t work. Any suggestions on how to get these files transferred. It’s all files that have band names beginning with the word The. I tried taking out the The but they still won’t transfer.
