Hello,

I have 5 days left on my free trial, and one functionality I really wish to test is using Roon to control my existing Sonos speakers.

Here are some facts:

My Roon Core is an connected via ethernet to my home network.
My sonos Boost is connected via ethernet to my home network.
All sonos speakers are on the same wifi network as my Roon core.
None of my sonos speakers are airplay capable. They are too old for that ability.

I have been unable to “see” my Sonos speakers or Boost in under Settings>Audio.
I rebooted my Sonos Boost and my Roon Core and they still do not show up.
My internet has been reliable and on, continuously.

What can I do to get Roon to see my Sonos system so I can try Roon as the control for Sonos?

I have determined that my Sonos is being fed by different IP addresses, likely created by my ASUS mesh system. The Roon Core is coming off the Xfinity modem. They cannot see one another. I need to figure out how to get them on the same family of IP addresses.

Thank you for your post and for your patience as we worked through the queue to reach your inquiry.

It sounds like your Sonos devices are on a separate subnet from your Roon Core. The simplest way to resolve this would be to Bridge your Xfinity modem/router and use the Asus mesh central router as the main router in your LAN. You could then hardwire your ROCK to the Asus mesh central router and use the Asus WiFi/ethernet to connect your Remotes and endpoints.

There are otherwise a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

  1. Sonos discovery and playback with Roon rely on multicast and UPnP, so it’s worth verifying that both are enabled in your Asus mesh network and switch.
  2. If you’re using a managed switch, it may be filtering traffic to/from the Boost. What happens if you connect the Boost to the Asus network directly via WiFi or ethernet?
  3. Do you have any issues with your other listed DAC, the Schiit Bifrost 2?
