Description of Issue

Sonos Play:1 and Play:5 speakers have suddenly stopped working with Roon. When trying to play to those zones, Roon displays the “Roon lost control of the audio device” error message with no sound. All other zones appear to be working with Roon.

Play:1 and Play:5 zones will stream other services via the Sonos app, and the Play:5 zone will play via Airplay when enabled.

This is identical to the issue I encountered back in April after the last big update .

Your help is appreciated! Thanks…

Hi @Eric_Krums,

The WiFi and SonosNET changes Sonos introduced with 15.2 caused the symptoms you described; Sonos solved the regression with 15.3. First off, which firmware version are you using on your S2 and S1 devices?

Do you have UPnP, multicast, and IGMP snooping enabled on your router and associated components, and have you had any recent firmware updates to your network equipment?

Are your Play:1 and Play:5 relying on the same Orbi satellite? Mesh networks can interfere with multicast when you have Sonos endpoints throughout the house, causing the exact dropouts you’re experiencing.

The team will pull diagnostics to investigate further.

Hi Connor,

The issue has magically resolved itself with multiple restarts of my Roon Core & mesh network. Should have closed this thread out while back!

Thanks…

-Eric
