When the Sonos streaming zones disappear, do the Sonos Airplay outputs disappear as well or do those remain? How are the Sonos connected, are they via WiFi to the UAPs, are they using SonosNET or Ethernet? Are there any network switches in your setup?
Hi @noris,
Only 1 of the Sonos units, the Play 5, has Airplay, and it remains visible with an Airplay connection even after all the Sonos outputs have disappeared.
All of the Sonos units are connected on Wifi, direct to the UAP’s. No Sonosnet or Ethernet.
I have one Netgear GS105 5 port gigabit switch, which connects TV, Sky box, Bluray player and Amazon fire via ethernet
This is just after a reboot of the core. Everything was found immediately (but that isn’t always the case). The Sonos units will disappear after an indeterminate time, but no more than a few hours. The Play 5:Airplay will remain.
Thanks @Michael_Harris for your help. I like the way Roon works, and I am looking at bringing my main hi-fi in to the system with the help of a Raspberry Pi from user @killdozer over on another thread. But I don’t want to have to ditch my Sonos, which is what the family mostly uses.
I’ve already encouraged another sign up to Roon from another forum, but I’m having to report back on Sonos issues.
My family uses Sonos/Tidal and I use Roon.
I have 3 Roon Ready endpoints now and a few Pi’s set up with HifiBerry hat’s.
When Sonos was reliable I used it all the time, now I tend to only use it in my study and reboot Roon before I start working.
I’m hoping this can be sorted before summer when I take out multiple Sonos in the garden and link them all with Roon. The family will not be happy.
I was planning on phasing out Sonos and then I bought a Move and fell in love with Sonos again.
I’ve pulled your Roon logs and I am seeing quite a few network-related errors in them, including issues communicating with the iMac every few seconds, not just Sonos, see below:

First, I would verify if the same issue occurs if you set up a fresh database and only use streaming services and/or small local library content. You can set up Roon fresh by using these instructions:
Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
Is the BT Home Hub being used as a router in your setup? Do you have any switches in your setup (managed or unmanaged)? Can you temporarily try to use another router instead of this one or one of the APs as a router? There have been a few issues reported in the past with BT routers.
The home hub is being used as a router only. All Wi-Fi is through the AP’s.
There is one switch, net gear gs105 which is used for the TV, sky box etc. which are all wired.
The Mac Mini is wireless but the IMac I have also been using is hard wired to the BT home hub. Both show the same problem.
I don’t have another router as my only other router doesn’t handle my FTTP broadband, and I don’t think I can use the AP’s as a router, I don’t see a way to do that.
Having said all the above, the system has now been stable for a few hours.
I will try the reinstall as you suggest and report back.
@support I’ve followed Noris’ instructions and set up a new instance of Roon.
it took 5 restarts to find all the Sonos devices, but the 2 airplay devices I have are always found and never drop, and so why is puzzling is that the issues, reported by quite a few others, relate to Sonos, even though all the Sonos devices are concisely available on the Sonos app.
If my network is the issue, why does it only affect Sonos on Roon?
Hi @support. I followed the directions above. I set up a new Roon instance with streamed music from Tidal only.
After the 5th restart Roon found all the Sonos speakers. That lasted a few hours before all the Sonos speakers disappeared, leaving just the Mac and the Bose Wave connected on Airplay.
It’s been stable for a few days now, running on the headless Mac mini. Has anything changed at Roon as nothing has changed here - for example, does Roon auto update software?
I have ordered a new router to replace the BT Home Hub (although this brings it’s own problems as using a non BT router means I will lose my home landline phone, if you can believe it!) and I will wire the Mac Mini direct to the new router.
