The discussion has expanded quite a bit, but the original issue—as stated in the title—is that the sorting options aren’t displayed in the Android app’s Discography section.
Could we perhaps close this thread on the understanding that this will be fixed as a bug in the future?
I feel that leaving an incident open for an extended period isn’t ideal from a support perspective.
As for the general sorting issues, please handle those in the thread below; I have already provided track data there.
Of course. We will respond to the other issues you’ve raised as soon as possible.
The clarity of the UI/UX and the actual underlying function of Sort for Overview vs. Discograhy ought to remain tracked separately. The former is something that seems to confuse users pretty often (for example, “By Date,” without clarifying what field informs that sort). It’s not documented clearly and this thread has prompted some discussion interally, and a ticket, to review that user experience.
Overview lives in your library: it’s user-controlled and user-curated. Discography extends beyond your library: Roon has never afforded users full granular curatorial control over that page, because it represents the artist outside the object graph of your library, in the real world. The debate surrounding these mechanics is as old as Roon itself, because what’s at stake is what’s valued in an ouevre.
We never want to discourage these conversations, ever, and this is precisely why Community exists. It’s true that Support is subject to topic timers and stricter policies than other categories, so if you’d like, we can migrate this entire conversation. It’s already ticketed internally on our end, so migrating to Roon Software Discussion won’t halt any internal efforts by our Product team to reassess this.
Thanks, @Suedkiez for taking the time to contribute your thoughts, as well.
I have said what I wanted to say, so please feel free to close this thread.
I hope that your company will consider these points—including aspects I may have overlooked—and make improvements in the future.
The team has escalated many of the points you’ve raised as feature suggestions (and bugs) to the relevant teams. We’ll carefully consider the issues you’ve raised. Please feel free to reach out anytime.
