Soundtracks Anybody?

For those missing 80s pop/rock, Top Gun and Rocky are good ones.

Carlo Rustichelli
Divorce Italian Style (1961) (Divorzio all’italiana)

Highly regarded to this day, & Oscar Winning Italian comedy; starring: Marcello Mastroianni.

Rusctichelli had a long standing relationship with the director Pietro Germir. His first film was Lost Youth in 1948 which was the beginning of one of the longest and most fruitful director/composer collaborations. Rustichelli composed scores for all but the first of Germi’s films (18 in total).

Not exactly a soundtrack, but a “best of” of the soundtracks from Supergiant Games. They’re known for having great music in their games and this is a nice sampling.

Franco Micalizzi
Il Giustiziere La Citta’ (1975)

Italian police movie directed by Umberto Lenzi, with a soundtrack to match, as one would expect from Franco. Albeit this is way too short with the theme repeated (with some changes) too often to make this a worthwhile purchase. However, I am a fan of Micalizzi’s work!

Armando Trovajoli
Prolific composer, often of the ‘exploitation’ style, popular at the time.

This is a 5 CD -set @killdozer , I have each with its own cover (for when you have everything Tindersticks).

Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009 (2011)

Listening to the various discs, one gets an idea of just how the band itself has shifted in scope and form and responded to Denis’ scripts and rushes with increased confidence that is now almost instinctual. The music – especially in the longer scores for the latter two films – offers its own narratives and stand alone. (allmusic)

Listening to this album now (which was released on its own):

Hi @Nostro. Tindersticks are a long term favorite here but I’m more of an early albums fan. Saw them many times but mostly 20 years+ ago. Class act…

I’ve never seen them. They must have toured here at least once, but I don’t recall those times. I’m also more of an early albums fan. However, I don’t think in their vast catalogue there’s a dud album; they are just so solid and consistent.

Stuart Staples solo albums have been fairly solid also, if you’ve not found your way to them. i think the first two are the pick of the crop!

Ennio Morricone
Morricone Segreto (2020)

Ennio Segreto (“secret” in Italian) captures 27 examples – including seven never released before – from 100’s of now-obscure soundtracks he did in these freewheeling and otherworldly styles, and it’s more interesting than much of the later orchestral music he wrote for American films. Ennio Segreto spans his most creative period, even if it doesn’t capture all the highlights, which no single album could anyway. (Mike G)

A little random here - no idea about the film. I’m posting as I was playing some other music from the same label - that typically doesn’t stray too far from Neo Classical to some ambient artists.

An album that Carpenter fans may have missed. Plenty of pulsating synth lines here in typical Carpenter fashion. Joined by his son Cody & Godson - Daniel Davies (of Year Long Disaster band).

A big part of Lost Themes’ brilliance lies in Carpenter’s refusal to update his aesthetic – the more '80s it is, the more vital it sounds. As he leaps from one thrill to the next, he evokes his past without rehashing it, delivering a complete and immensely satisfying portrait of his music along the way. (allmusic)

Thank You, never heard about it. A composer who dares to patch Morricone, is a winner.

Love Tindersticks, that soundtrack came out in 1996 originally I have it on CD, its lovely. All their early recordinga are wonderful. Staples is a great crooner and the band sound wonderful with the mixture of guitarrs, strings and woodwind. Regret never seeing them live, would have been a lovely thing to hear live.
