Recently, the SAMSUNG T5 Portable SSD, 1TB External Solid State Drive on my ROCK NUC, suddenly created a copy of itself. I’ve attached a screenshot but the directories look like this:
When this first happened a few weeks ago I tried to delete the directory ending in “p1-2”. This resulted in both directories being deleted. I removed the SSD from ROCK, formatted it as exFat using the Disk Utility app on my mac, copied all my music to it from a backup on my NAS and plugged it in to the NUC. Everything worked normally for a week and I thought it was just an anomaly.
Fast forward to today and the same thing has happened.
I don’t want to reformat, reload the SSD, and start all over again. Roon is working, but twice as much storage is being used.
I’ve tried Googling the problem but I don’t think my search terms are hitting the mark. So I’m hoping some wise, kind souls at Roon can help me sort this out.
Is the SSD faulty? Is something happening in Roon that’s causing this?
It’s not actually a copy (as you found out by deleting one of them) but the same folder gets displayed under 2 names. There are a few instances of this problem on the forum. This helped another person:
My SATA SSD drive does not do this, but my USB HDD drive does sometimes. I noticed the behavior immediately and never tried to delete it because I knew that it couldn’t exist, so the second drive comes and goes. In my finder window. It isn’t usually there though and have never inquired as to why but will follow this thread closely.
