I would like to get a powered speaker for the bedroom for casual listening and am considering the McIntosh RS150 and the Naim Muso Qb 2nd Generation. Both appear to be ‘Roon Ready’, are the size I am looking for (<9" square footprint), and are similarly priced. Does anyone have experience with either or both of these? Or is there a better option I am overlooking?
Hello,
I’ve been using three Naim Cube Gen.2 speakers for years. I like the sound of the Naims for multi-room setups.
The only issue I’m currently experiencing is that the Naims are (no longer) always synchronized. This leads to reverberation in the apartment when you move between rooms. The ticket has been created and we’re working on it.
Otherwise, it works very stable and reliably.
I initially considered the McIntosh RS150, but they were immediately ruled out in terms of sound. Visually, they were also borderline for me.
Cambridge Audio has the Evo One that is a single unit that looks similar to the Naim Muso. Sonus Faber has their Omnia all-in-one. Admittedly they are wider than your size constraint.
I previously owned the first gen Naim Muso and wasn’t that impressed.
For my office I settled on Kef LS50 Wireless IIs that are Roon Ready, Airplay 2, etc. etc. etc–just about everything really. I like the ability to get better stereo separation with two speakers. The LSX speakers are the smaller version.
Additionally, in the bedroom, I also use the Cube Gen2 as an alarm clock via the Naim app. Once set, it works very well without a phone or other devices. The source or radio station can be selected flexibly.
The Naim Cube isn’t intended to be my primary system; I actually listen to music through other devices and speakers, but they do a good job as standalone speakers.
