Stereo pair of Era 100s not playing in Roon after latest update (ref#5F1H1I) [Ticket In]

A side note on this, my Era speakers have been much more finicky lately when airplaying to them with other apps. Besides Roon, usually force closing the app and/or starting up the Sonos app fixes it though. The older speakers are always fine, this is just the Eras. So Sonos is doing something differently with them. Gone are the days of Sonos just working like they used to.

Aside from the Airplay issues my Roon app keeps randomly rebooting. Is this related?

After I try to play to the Era 100’s, Roon resets. Page goes blank with a Roon logo, and then reloads the home page. I assume it is related to this, since it only happens after I try to play to the affected speakers.

Ok so I feel better now. Hopefully they will fix the issues.

Hi @Josh_Comley the fix has been released. Are you still experiencing the playback issues with the Era 100s?

@daniel I can’t test because my trial ended so I never got to really try it out :joy:

Hi @Josh_Comley,

Sorry about that! @daniel looped me in and we’ve restarted a Roon free trial on your account. Would you please give it a try?

@daniel, @beka thank you for that!

Unfortunately it still doesn’t work.

I have rebooted my server, and the speakers.

Time stamps:

Water Deep by M83

18:05 GMT, with compatibility mode disabled
18:06 GMT, with compatibility enabled

When compatibility mode is disabled, it exhibits the same server rebooting behaviour as before.

I am on Roon Server v2.0 (build 1470)

Is that the latest version? Roon itself claims it is.

Here is the link to the current production versions. So yes according to it.

I am confused, you said the fix has been released, but the build is still 1470 (which is what I am on after the update that broke this). Is there a new build coming soon?

I’m also seeing this issue with a stereo pair of Era 100s and also a Move 2. They appear as available airplay 2 endpoint but Roon is unable to initiate playback, sometimes crashing Roon itself as described by @Lee_A. I’m able to airplay to these devices natively from iOS and Mac OS.

Just to confirm that early access release 1474 has not solved this AirPlay problem with Sonos Era 100 speakers.

Hi Everyone,

If you are still experiencing playback issues after upgrading to the latest version of Roon, could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time, and name of track attempted to play?

From there, we’ll enable diagnostics for your Roon Server and have our team investigate further. Thank you!

Early release build 1475 still has this problem - no AirPlay streaming to Sonos Era 100 speakers.

Hi Everyone,
We want to reach out regarding the recent communication about the release of fix for the AirPlay issue you reported. Unfortunately, there was some confusion on our end, and the fix we mentioned has not been released yet. We apologize for the oversight and for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hi @Derek_Demaree,

Thanks for following up, but unfortunately we’ll need a more specific timestamp per my last reply:

Thank you!

@benjamin @daniel It’s an AirPlay issue which does not allow us to use. I can not play a track because AirPlay does not work anymore with the Sonos Era 100. However AirPlay will work with the Sonos One. This seems to affect only the Era 100. This was never a problem before and it has been a couple months I believe. I rely on airplay to group my whole home music distribution. I can’t do that any longer and I have to use another software to do it now. I am willing to help in any way I can to get this resolved. Thank you.

As I said upthread, the Era 100s have been very finicky in the past month or 2 about Airplay. Other apps will Airplay to them, but sometimes it takes a few tries before it will work. And even then they will sometimes just stop, or get syncing issues with the stereo pair. So it is not just Roon, other than Roon won’t work at all compared to other apps that will sometimes work.

It’s to the point I am thinking of replacing them.

Hi @Lee_A, @Michael_Mowery,

Thank you for your patience. The team is continuing to investigate Airplay2 issues on the Era 100.

Please try adding both Era 100 endpoints to the Apple Home app if you haven’t already. Pair them as a stereo device there.

Please additionally share a screenshot of the Device Setup page in Roon for the Airplay2 paired Era 100 Zone.

This is not limited to just paired Era 100’s. They don’t work at all in AirPlay II.
