Thank you for reaching Roon support.
When playing FLAC files in Roon, you might notice the output is shown as PCM. This is expected behavior and not an issue.
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a compressed format. Roon decodes (or decompresses) the FLAC file before sending it to the audio device. The resulting uncompressed audio stream is in PCM (Pulse-Code Modulation) format, which is what your DAC or audio output device actually plays.
So even though you’re playing a FLAC file, what’s sent to your audio device is PCM—this is the decoded, bit-perfect version of the original audio.
