I have solidly moved AWAY from Sonos proprietary hardware. All of the powered speakers I now use are non-proprietary and produced by different manufacturers. KEF, Devialet, ADAM et al. That, in part, eliminates an unsolvable problem - i.e. the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ of Sonos. Done.
I have moved towards Roon. And all my new hardware supports the Roon-Ready protocol. Great.
But then, we have the massive matrix of devices vs apps vs protocols vs integrations. Let’s spell out some examples.
Can I use Roon to stream TIDAL or QOBUZ content to all my speakers? YES. But I’m limited to those services.
Can I use Roon to stream SoundCloud content to anything? NO. Or not that I am aware of.
Can I use SoundClound on my Android to stream content to my devices vs Chromecast? SOME. But NOT ALL. Because not all my hardware supports Chromecast.
How about SoundCloud running on an iPad to stream content to all devices via AirPlay? I DUNNO. I guess I will try that next.
And then, bring in the clowns - lots of 3rd party patches to bridge these little gaps. At this point I’m lost in the weeds.
My OBJECTIVE of course, is to play whatever music I want from whichever services I subscribe to, to ALL of my non-proprietary hardware AT THE SAME TIME.
Does anybody have a coherent approach to this problem? Or is this a problem for future generations?
Thank you so much for any COHERENT solutions you may care to suggest.
