For the anti-streaming crowd the monetary compensation being paid to the artists by the streaming services is way too low and the best way to compensate the artists is to purchase physical media. Sounds very reasonable but…
What about recordings available on various streaming services, and which, when streamed by a listener, are generating revenue for the artists but are no longer available to purchase new, in other words, out of print? Sure one could still pick up a used copy from a Discogs seller but when buying used CDs or LPs the original artist receives NO compensation.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that streaming is not always evil and the amount of good or harm that streaming is doing really depends on many factors and is different for each recording and artist.
The part of streaming that bothers me, is where “they” (the streaming service) either looses the license or just decides to not host an artist or track and I loose access to what I paid for. This is why I like to buy the CD or mp3 or His-res file to have locally so it can’t be taken away or changed/censored.
I also don’t like how some streaming services really push certain “artists/genres of the week” on me when I do not want to even see them (cough Tidal cough).
I believe that the compensation for video streaming is calculated differently from compensation for music streaming, however it’s difficult to get the correct answer since AI (and all Internet searches now involved AI) keeps confusing video and music streaming.
If anyone can provide a clear outline of the differences in compensation between video and music streaming it would be very helpful.
The alternative to streaming is not merely purchasing physical media. It is also (and more importantly, for me) purchasing downloads. These are usually available long after physical media is out of print.
LOL, not racist just don’t like the music. Nasty lyrics, bad beats, “off” rhythm, screaming in my ear about grape or un-aliving. Discordantly composed, so called avant-garde etc. Don’t want to hear it.
In my case it has little to do with race,. Its all about what I find enjoyable to listen to. Reggae, country, classical, Hungarian rock, Hard rock, light rock, pop, rap, easy listening, etc etc. Like a lot of different genres, but not all.
