Super slow running and loosing core during search

Description of Issue

Since the last update, the search has become slow and problematic: the music stops, the message “Waiting for Roon Server” appears. The audio zone also disappears. After about fifteen seconds the search result finally appears and the music can resume. CPU usage never exceeds 30 percent and the LAN bandwidth is far from busy.
Even if I pause the music, the search is equally slow and the core is lost. I do not use the DSP.
Before that, before the last update, everything was working perfectly.
Could you give me some suggestions?

Yes this is my behavour too (which I mentioned in another already raised supoort request). The latest update has substantially broken my server (also Linux, but not QNAP)

So for now the solution is: launch the research, have a coffee and wait.

That doesnt solve my problem, since it doesnt only break during search. The server seems to be losing network connectivity. Remotes fail to connect or stay connected, music pauses as zones disappear and reappear. As always, the only change has been updating roon server and now my (recently rock solid except for ARC) setup is expensive shelfware.

Hi @Nicola_Sforza,

Thanks for taking the time to write in, and I’m sorry to hear you’re having performance issues with your Nas.

To confirm, if you create a fresh backup (or if you already have a recent backup) and completely disable your local library + perform a library cleanup, do you still experience performance issues?

This would mean you’d only rely on your streaming content.

With that, could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?

Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.

If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.

I’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply. Thanks!

I’m listening with Roon right now.
Same problem

Another example. Looking for Pavarotti’s Mamma, here is what’s happened. Reached the blank dark screen I launched another search for the same album and finally Roon found it.

Finally, log uploaded right now.

Hi @Nicola_Sforza,

Please restart your Roon Server device twice, and let me know if your issues persist. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the problem persists. However, the icon indicating the core search opens very briefly. The search is a little faster but the music stops while searching for a song or author.

Any news about this issue?

Hi @Nicola_Sforza,

Thanks for the update and the logs! We were able to take a closer look and have a few additional questions:

  1. Does this behavior happen regardless of the remote device used?
  2. If possible, could you temporarily bypass your network switches and hardwire your server directly to your router?
  3. Can you reproduce this issue when playing to a different endpoint, or a system output from one of your remote devices?

Outside of the above, I would also suggest removing Roon from the remote(s) and re-downloading it directly from our downloads here:

https://roon.app/en/downloads

Sadly, the issue persists.

I experience exactly the same… loosing core while search, Doesnt matter which remote.
Search takes very long…I also would appreciate a solution for this…
I will go through above suggestions and will feedback if it work out…

Hi Benjamin. News?

Hi @Nicola_Sforza,

I don’t have any information or updates to share at this time, as our time is still investigating things on our end. I hope to have more to share as soon as possible.

Apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime. :-1:

Hi, just wanted to add I am experiencing exactly the same issues. Prior to 1353 I had no issues at all. Now ROON is basically unusable. Drop outs after two or three minutes. I’ll keep my eye on this thread.
Please help.

Well… about two days after posting above, I rebooted the NUC with ROON on it (something I’d done a few times before) and the drop outs and slow search were gone. Back to normal. I left it a few days before reporting.
However, using the ROON app on my Android phone is very strange. Each time, I have to close the app and open it again before it functions properly. It will freeze up if I leave it for a while (eg listen to an album) and then, before being able to make a further choice, I have to close the app and re-open.
I wonder what is going on there?

Thanks anyway, for whoever or whatever fixed the dropout problem.
