I (perhaps foolishly) believed Roon would recognize / use iTunes’ work name / movement / name hierarchy for albums not recognized by Roon - does it not?
I spent some time inputting very accurate metadata for a new live album (Rostropovich and Britten Live at Aldeburgh Festival - 1961) in iTunes (as is my wont), but Roon simply shows “Track 1”, “Track 2”, etc., upon import. Any way to get the detailed metadata as entered in iTunes to be recognized / used by Roon?
Right now, we support the conventions laid out here.
We could potentially add support for others in the future if there was sufficient demand, so I can move this thread over to Feature Requests if you want?
Hey @jhwalker – just wanted to let you know that we did a little more research here and have made a change.
When you edit MP4 files in iTunes, the composition and movement name is written to the files, so we should recognize that information in a future release – we were able to do some testing here and see why this wasn’t being recognized.
One thing to note – iTunes does not appear to write this information back to the file tags in other formats, so this will only work for AAC or ALAC files (with the MP4 extension). This won’t work for MP3, AIFF, etc.
