I’m going to switch from Qobuz to Tidal, and already added Tidal to Roon. I used Sounddizz to transfer albums and playlists, and now I end up with this:
Some albums appear 3 times, one local, one from Qobuz and one from Tidal. ‘group alternate versions’ does nothing. Play counts are not merging either.
I assume that Roon is all about organizing a music library and keeping track of what you’re listening to, independent of which source you have available. And switching the source would be simple. Am I wrong?
I do like the possibility to access alternative versions. But I do not want to have them lined up in My Library/Albums view. One is enough.
Play history for each release is fine, but should be independent of the streaming service. It’s not because I turn off Qobuz, that I suddenly didn’t listen as many times to a song.
For me, the basic flaw in Roon is that it is streaming service/source dependent for keeping track of play counts. And it shouldn’t.
In that case, you shouldn’t add them to your library; alternate release are still visible under the Versions tab. Nonetheless, Group Alternate Versions should work.
Different streaming services have different versions of the same release, and in many instances, multiple versions. Play history is tied to the version, and the media location, i.e., local, Qobuz, TIDAL. In my view, this is correct, as I have multiple local versions of certain releases, and want them to be handled as separate entities.
If you’d like alternative behaviour, you are welcome to post in Feature Suggestions.
