Testing Roon GUI in Linux Mint

I am a lifetime user of windows. I decided to look at Linux and got Mint up and running. There appears to be no native Roon app for Linus from what I see. Do I have to run wine to set up Roon in Mint? I am using a Roon Nucleus One and want to be able to control roon from my desktop. It runs fine with Windows but the steps to install in Linux are confusing. Where is the best guide to learn how to do this? Thanks.

Take a look at: Community Remote for Linux, first native Linux GUI (v0.2.0)

There is no native Linux app that allows you to view Roon and control it through Linux. Wine is said to work in some instances. I don’t know about the link Dirk-Pitt has posted so cannot comment on that. I presume you were a Windows 10 user?

Bottles is an alternative to Wine and loading Roon seems to be relatively straightforward.

I am about to stress test in the next few days.

You are correct, there is no native GUI for Linux. However, there are plenty of options, some already mentioned.

I use both Community Remote and the Windows app running under Wine. This works well with Ubuntu derivatives (I not tested the Debian- based Mint.)

Instructions here:

See Easier way to install Roon (Remote) on Linux: Bottles! for the gui. I tested this with debian trixie, fedora 43 and cachyos.
I use squeezelite on the linux desktop as roon endpoint.

Windows 11. Still I now have the option to run win 11 or mint when I boot.

Ah, OK. I suppose it’s nice to have the option but do you thing it is better or just an alternative?

I am not yet sure. I am trying to get Roon up and running and then a few other programs. It seems pretty straight forward most of the time until I get into the command prompts.

It’s not clear what method you’re using, but please reach out if you need any command explaining.

You can install and run the Roon.exe windows app under wine on Linux. I have to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="windows.media.mediacontrol=" to the wine command line, otherwise it crashes. I found this elsewhere on the Roon community forums. The windows app works perfectly for me on Ubuntu Linux desktop with the mediacontrol disabled.

I’m running Roon on mint Linux with no issues instead of using Rock. I use a 13” iPad to access the data. You don’t need to access the Roon app on Linux, all the configuration was done on the iPad. Updates are all done on the iPad.
You do all the disk setups that Roon will be using on Linux, I actually share 8 TB of solid state storage on my Mac server for the Roon music files, the only attached disk on the Linux server is a 128G ssd for the Roon backups.

I’m using a 10 year old Mac Pro with 64G of ram, 256G ssd for the OS and Roon app. This system sounds better than my prior Mac server setups.
