Description of Issue

Hi, this regards “The” in sorting artists. I have always sorted using the definite article, ie The Beatles rather than ignoring the The when listing an artist, which is the correct way in English. So, The Beatles should be in the T’s rather than the B’s.

Many programmes allow for the Definite Article, can Roon be update to match?

Roon doesn’t have the option and there are many older discussions about it (pointing out that it’s a difficult problem because whether the article is actually part of the name is not always clear). Whether Roon will ever allow for it, nobody knows. (And then the question about A, Der/Die/Das, La/Las, etc. starts )

As far as I know, there is only this manual workaround:

"The Artist" instead of "Artist, The" for album sorting

I can offer a kludge… Assuming you have chosen to sort artists by last name first (in settings), then each artist has a Last-First Sort Name found in the 3 dot edit page for the artist. This field is then used for sorting purposes only, not in displays. Thus you can set this to, for instance, “the69eyes” for “The 69 Eyes”. Roon will no longer ignore the “the”. You will have to do this for each artist you are concerned about. Not ideal perhaps, but best I can do.
