Have spent hours last night trying to investigate why I cant get any sound out of anything. have the Meridian hooked into the modem through the Ethernet. Setup is HP PC running the latest Windows (10?) and a Budiilite wi fi modem (IInet provider). Remote is a Surface Pro, remote and core are talking fine I think. I have the Ethernet cable running out of the back of the Budiilite modem, under the house and then up and into the living room into the back of the Meridian 808.3i CDP. So itās either-
I need to hook into the USB port on the Meridian using an Ethernet-USB adaptor, not the Sooloos Ethernet port
I need to hook into the USB-out on the core (PC tower) using an Ethernet-USB adaptor (no Ethernet-out on the core tower), not the Ethernet modem out port where it currently is .
Or some mixture of the above. Any thoughts brains trust before I go back to CDās!
Have you had the 808.3i from new?
By default the ID41 [card in the 808] should use DHCP to obtain its IP address, however it is possible to configure it to a fixed address (I personally prefer to use DHCP and reserve the IP in the router.)
Have you checked the ethernet port to make sure the link light is on and the data light flashes?
Try running a network scanner App, like Fing, to see if it detects the ID40 card on your LAN.
ISP provided cable modems donāt make for good switches, they often restrict multi-cast discovery packets. I recommend using a simple Ethernet switch ⦠connect it to the modem then plug all your other devices into the switch.
Once you have identified the IP address of the ID41, point a web browser at it so you can check it configuration. Typically it should be setup to use the AUX source.
I know lots of questions and things to check ⦠but we have to take this step by step.
PS Note the ID41 card is limited to 96kHz , whilst the USB input on the 808.3 is good for up to 192kHz.
Carl, thanks for the reply, will check out all the things you suggest that I try that I understand, will need to Google a few of your comments, haha. I donāt understand lot of the computer-speak acronyms. I donāt know what ID41 and DHCP are but am very good at checking flashing lights, haha.
I donāt know how plugging an Ethernet switch into the modem is different to plugging straight to the modem but you would certainly know better than me so I will give it a go, thanks for the tip.
No, the 808.3 was second hand. I also downloaded the ROON bridge last night, it made no difference.
yes have heard the 808.3i is excellent for what I am trying to do (192kHz etc).
Will go through your suggestions and give feedback regardless of the outcome, for our community reference.
Iād suggest asking the previous owner if they used the ID41 card and if so did they leave it as DHCP assigned IP address or re-configured it with a fixed IP address. If fixed find out what the address is.
(If that fixed address is on a different subnet to your home LAN, Roon/Sooloos will not be able to find it)
Sorry for tech. jargon, they comes with the territory ⦠Google / Wikipedia is your friend, but do come back with specific questions as the arise ⦠itās a steep leaning curve to start with.
Hi Daz. Nice to hear from you. Short answer is I only used it for CDs so didnāt play with any cards etc so no idea of their settings. Canāt check with original owner either as he dropped off the map some months ago.
Ethernet light on the Meridian is flashing, one static orange light and one flashing green one.
Best guess is that it is using a static IP address that doesnāt match your network.
Someone more savvy with managing networks and these cards might have to advise the bets way forward. I canāt recall if there is a factory reset on the card.
Flashing ethernet LEDs ok thatās good so it is on the your LAN, and I suspect like Nick that at some point in the past the ID41 card has been configured to use a static IP address.
If I recall correctly, the Meridian Sooloos Configuration program can discover the ID40 even if it is on a different subnet, so try this:
Install the Meridian Sooloos Configuration program onto a Windows laptop.
Connect that laptop directly to the ID41 card in the 808.3 using an RJ45 patch lead.
Run the Meridian Sooloos Configuration program.
Which hopefully should display a screen a little like this:
Note the cardās IP address on this screen (mine is 192.168.1.115 but it will be different on your system).
I have an ID40 card but you should see ID41 ⦠double click that section, and if it is setup to use a static IP it will look like this:
Please take a screen shot of this,so you have a record of it (I use the snippet tool that comes with Windows).
Your ID41 card should now be using DHCP, so it will request an IP address from your router.
Power cycle the 808.3 so the card reboots.
Close and restart Meridian Sooloos Configuration program.
It should still find the ID41 card but it will now have a new IP address that is on your local LAN sub-net.
Reconnect the ID41 card back to your router, and restart Roon.
Fingers crossed it will discover the ID41 now, though you still may need to add a network switch if the router does not play ball.
Also, once you have the new IP address of the ID41 card, you can point a web browser at that IP address and see that cards web config screen:
Okie Dokie, this morning I did all that Carl suggested above and all went well until plugging back into the router. Once I did that, Sooloos Config could no longer see anything. Putting the IP address into the address bar and hitting enter also did nothing.
Copy pasted the config screens and comments below, for info if it is useful-
SO- I assume the next thing to try is the router switch. Not sure that will make any difference though as the light is flashing on the back of the CDP.
Well I just got it all working fine then by using a RJ45/USB adapter and plugging into the USB port on the back of the core (desktop tower) and all works fine. The core seeās the Meridian and all is good.
When I go back again to the router, all disappears, might go into the router config and see if anything is in there, or even call IInet techies for help.
Also, a friend advised holding in the repeat button on the front panel resets the card.
Edit- spoke to support at IINET and they advised I need to contact meridian so they can give me the settings details to configure the modem to the CDP.
So if I simply set up so that the whole thing works though a USB/RJ45 Ethernet adapter out the back of the desktop tower (the core) to the CDP endpoint, will this cause me to lose the high res features of the music?
Hi sounds like some progress, but does leave some unanswered questions.
That sounds like the response of someone clutching at straws ⦠with the ID41 set to used DHCP it should be plug and play into any LAN with a DHCP Server ⦠The card requests an IP address and the DHCP in the router servers it.
(Iām assuming the IINET is a modem/router/DHCP combination device most are these days ⦠unfortunately many ISP provided devices have poor implementations).
Connecting the ID41 card to you tower PC has probably setup up a network bridge ⦠it should work fine for audio. Running Meridian-Sooloos configure can you find out what the cards IP address is now.
However does that compare with the IP of your router and you PC?

will this cause me to lose the high res features of the music?
[/quote]Should be fine ⦠up to 24bit / 96KHz which is the maximum that 808.3i / ID41 supports.
The V6 can āreceive up to 192kHzā in itās USB and analogue inputs, donāt know about Ethernet and donāt know if my V3 is the same as the V6. Also not sure what the USB output is out of the tower, haha.
IP addresses, will have to check.
Pretty happy with the sound or ROON-Tidal, probably wont stay with it for a long time, the high res cost of Tidal will add up but hereās hoping I can discover some new music.
Ladies and gents thank you so much for your patience and support.
