The Soul of a New Machine

The main issue I have with Linux is getting it mixed up with memory remnants of MS-DOS. God knows I’ve tried to hammer those neurones with alcohol etc.

Anything you don’t use on a regular basis becomes a challenge to recall, especially when working at the command line / terminal.

For the more arcane puzzles I’ve solved I’ve posted them to a forum so others can use and I can reference whenever I need to.

Notes are always a great idea, whether you’re 16 or 106 years old…

I kept a bunch for setting up Roon Server and HQPlayer Embedded for Debian/Ubuntu.

So @xxx if you have any issues, feel free to ask. If I have any clue and/or it’s in my notes, happy to help. There’s a bunch of Linux experts on this forum too.

FWIW -

So far I’ve -

Installed a VNC server and got it to start automagically.
Made a crontab entry to shut down the machine at a certain time
Tackled chmod. I set my permissions to 777 as I can’t be bothered with bit twiddling.
Installed Qemu.

For my media needs, I tried to install a WIN10 VM, but got told I didn’t have permission. WTF, I’ve done that before, so my next Google safari.

Down the road a pfSense VM and, for my smart home control, an Android VM.
