Getting away from my noisy previous post:
Side II, Track One here is Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (from Everest 3156, Bruce Prince-Joseph on organ). The notes say: “Thanks to Everest Records, you can try to break your woofer or your lease.”
Nothing broken. Sounded great.
One of the oldest LPs in my collection. (1950)
Wonderful mono acoustics – applause for London ‘ffrr’.
The vinyl is heavy and substantial, on par with modern audiophile releases
Here is a 1982 release, a time when digital processing of vinyl was a marketing point. I also include a detailed photo of the technical information on the back of the cover – more than I’ve ever seen, I believe.
The music is splendid.
With the release last week of this long forgotten Art Pepper recording
I figured that time to get the all analog vinyl spin. The hand full of recordings that Artist House managed to release in their all too short existence were all expertly recorded and mastered. In addition, they almost all came in genuinely nice and informative packages. Infomation about the recording included with the recording, what a concept. Try finding the information shown on the back of the record jacket anyway on Roon, Tidal or Qobuz. Shame on them. i realize that I’m beating the hell out of dead horse but…
Just an update … I decided to purchase the Cambridge Audio Alva Duo direct from the manufacturer. It’s open box, discounted, and came with a 3-year warranty.
My decision was based on RIAA accuracy, and the fact in has an integral PSU—providing a chassis ground for my Naim amp.
I’m delighted with my choice; thanks for the suggestions.
Tried to add that into my Discogs using the Acoustic Sounds UPC and got this instead -
So, now I have a new box set, also.
The Art Pepper Artists House box set is available to stream on both Tidal and Qobuz.
The album that put the Art Ensemble on the jazz map and that helped lead me down the path of wickedness (aka avant-garde jazz). Best listened to in one sitting. 51 years later and it still amazes.
Yes, but why stream when you can spin?
Personally, I prefer to rinse and, of course, line dry.
