First time I have got a chance to play any in weeks. Son is coming home on Thursday so I need to make space and do more clearing.

I have made space in the living room for a Media stand, so I will hopefully get to upgrade to a second and much improved TT later this year or early next year.

One small step at a time  (the wife doesn’t approve, but she enjoys me enjoying vinyl in the sanctuary that is my man cave)

I’d be cautious to use a weight on the bearing of an IKEA turntable. Neither the chassi nor the bearing is designed for the increased strain.

If you want flattening assistance, try one of the “clamps” rather.

The platter with its less than 200gr weight

I agree Mikael, but It’s not very heavy weight. The IKEA TT does seem to be very cheaply made (and sold to be fair), but it does the job nicely for me.

The weight sits on the bar rather than pushing down on the vinyl but does seem to add a little bit bit of stability to it (at least in my mind)

Glad you’re happy with my recommendation

They also do inners which are Mofi knockoffs but have not tried them.

Thanks but I already bought a large selection of inners and only used a small number so far.

Trying not too buy too much new vinyl and enjoy some of my early 80s ones.

But I see, I like and I buy so it’s not going great so far :flushed:

just stumbled across this thread…

i re-entered vinyl about 18 months ago by adding a TT to my system. since then i have collected a library of ~110 LPs. i probably shouldn’t say this here but it seems like nowadays the only time i listen to my digital source is when i am previewing a title to see if i want the vinyl.

as there are so many titles being released these days and one cannot have them all, i focus almost entirely (>95%) on AAA releases with the majority of those being jazz re-issues. however, there are other AAA releases that i value highly. i have the entire vinyl library from gillian welch and dave rawlings and can recommend any of their titles wholeheartedly.

looking forward to following this thread!

Roon (along with the pandemic) began my renewed interest in music listening. For a while, I was so happy with the improvements in digital/streaming that my turntable was a bit neglected. Not for long as when listening with friends we agreed that the turntable still had the best sound, but my preamp exhibited some background noise at higher volumes-inaudible when music was playing, but annoying when one get used to the lack of that in digital. Then I came across Steve Guttenberg’s YouTube video of the DS Audio E1. Thanks to a generous trade-in for my phono pre-amp (nearly what I paid for it 12 years ago), my net outlay was $1200 for the cartridge and equalizer. But what an improvement for that expenditure! No background noise, better resolution and dynamic range. The only downer is the expense and limited selection for new recordings in vinyl/LP format.

Congrats on the DS cart! But i really don’t get what you are saying here? Almost all music is released on vinyl again? Or do we have significantly differing musical taste?

Two very different albums but both great fun.

Apologies for the filthy state of my deck. Must get my duster out.
Edit: it’s been out of order due to an electrical failure, but all up and running again now.
