I have had many challenges with getting ARC to work, when out and about. Thought that it was fixed now. Added the port forward Nucleus to my router (hadn’t done that before). Everything has worked so far. Now I have been abroad, and tried to connect to ARC. Didn’t work: “poor connection” (over wifi). Coursing and swearing. When I got how to my own network - still no connection. Started Roon for my iPhone, and it came with the message of a software update, that I accepted. And then guess what: ARC worked again!!
Question: Is it possible that Roon updates may prevent ARC from connecting until done? When you are traveling, there is no possibly for updating Roon…
As @ged_hickman1 wrote below, version mismatches might cause this
In other cases and even without version mismatches, “Poor Connection” messages even on home wifi and although ARC setup works in principle can usually be fixed by resetting the ARC app from Home > Settings. Sometimes, an uninstall/reinstall of the ARC app is necessary.
However, you will lose any downloads in ARC in either case.
This seems to happen sometimes after updating:
I’d switch off automatic updates when you are travelling on server and remotes and arc. Then one can’t get out of step with another.
Had another incidence of “poor connection”. Everything worked perfectly when out and about. Suddenly (at least I don’t know what happened): Poor connection. Not possible to restore this until I got home on my own network. And then I had to turn off/on the Nucleus to get ARC working again. It is really frustrating, because I cannot figure out what goes wrong. I am about to go away for some weeks, but I don’t think I should rely on using ARC during that time. Is it really only me? (this has nothing to do with updates).
I don’t think it is just you and I don’t think that updates are the only trigger, just one. According to the thread that was linked above, this is not expected to be fixed yet in production releases. The last production release was 11 days ago and there was nothing about this in the release notes and no post since in the thread mentioning a fix.
There has been a recent update in Early Access testing with several long-awaited fixes/improvements, though. Although this one was not specifically mentioned, maybe we are lucky and it was one of the “miscellaneous” ones.
You could try it if you can live with it:
Thank you so much - not checking everything daily. I’ll just have to be patient, and don’t rely on ARC to work when traveling. Might as well delete ARC until it works, just avoid the frustration
Yeah ARC can still be very annoying (although for me it has been working very well for a few months, but I am always very lucky with these things, so it doesn’t count ), but the latest earlyrelease update is looking good generally and some things on the fix list that were about time. Fingers crossed.
FWIW: ARC has behaved well for the last two weeks. so I felt reasonably safe for a travel. However, after being away for a week (= 1400 miles from my Nucleus), ARC suddenly stopped working. So I have to wait for another 3 weeks until getting back home to be able to reboot the Nucleus……so annoying
I bought a used MacMini (late 2014) for $200 and use it with Splashtop to remotely reboot my Nucleus and/or reconnect Tidal and Qobuz when necessary. It also serves as a backup Roon server to my Nucleus if ever needed. That has never happened.
Again FWIW: to may big surprise and pleasure, ARC started to work again after a couple of days. I didn’t have any impact on this, as I am still far away from the Nucleus. Wondering what have might caused that? Anyway, needed to communicate this to sort of counterweigh my complaints.
Hi @TooFrank,
We just released a significant set of performance improvements to ARC on the latest build. This included not only more reliable connectivity but also a reduction in the frequency of non-fatal connectivity warnings that would erroneously stop playback. The app also functions much more smoothly.
Please let us know if you have any issues moving forward and we’ll investigate. This thread will remain opening for a two-week period, but new comments will reset the timer.
Many thanks. Saw the new app, but was a little hesitant to update, now that I am away from home, and everything seems to work. However, based on your info, I have decided to give it try will report back on how it goes……
ARC worked for me, but not anymore See my error report in Support.
Sorry to hear. I am having no issues now. Did up date the app, but not sure how much of a difference that made
I’ve not been able to get it to work for months. Have given up & gone back to Spotify for the car on my wife’s phone. And if she’s not wit me I take a bunch of CDs.
