Tidal failures to play (normally first track only) and repeated tidal login failed

I am regularly seeing Tidal Login Failure on Roon running on my Sonic Transporter i5. I also “regularly” get Tidal track not available. I primarily listen to two endpoints, one a NAIM Unity Atom and the other is an ultrarendu driving a Schiit YGGY.

Tonight I made a network change that I thought might help. I have a secondary ethernet switch in the “office/server room” and I moved the ST over to the main house distribution switch and the Atom to WiFi.

I get a track failure pretty quickly after that change. I have grabbed the log file from my sever and there are network resolution failures are “interesting”.

I also notice some failures of the same kind when the server checks in with the licensing system.

I am on Comcast with a pair Netgear Orbi 3500 as the main router. That is connected to a 24 port unmanaged switch. I normally home run an ethernet cable to every “fixed” device on the network. I have not checked all the ethernet cables yet.

Here is the log file from my setting the Atom back up on wireless and enabling it in Roon and over the failure of the first track not playing. that was today 9/18 at 2136 central time.

Thanks for the detailed report, @Bob_Fairbairn1!

First, let’s try clearing your TIDAL cache:

  1. Shutdown RoonServer
  2. Find and open your Roon database
  3. Navigate to /Library/Roon/Cache
  4. Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
  5. Try restarting Roon and syncing Tidal

If that yields no change, we have also seen Google DNS help with similar reports. Can you try using Google DNS and let us know if you notice a change?

I am on a Sonic Transporter and I am pretty sure that I can clear the Roon Cache with a push button on the UI. I stop the server and try that. Google DNS is a no brainer I will do that also.

I did not change off of the Comcast DNS when I replaced the routers a few weeks ago. But this has been going on since before that. I was using cloudflare before. I will test a couple of them

I also use Comcast and stopped using their DNS servers some time ago. 75% of the albums in my library are Tidal albums and I’ve not had any issues since I started streaming using Roon in May.

I use a Netgear Orbi router which allows me to setup up to three DNS servers. I use these in the order presented:

1.1.1.1 - Cloudflare

9.9.9.9 - Quad9

8.8.8.8 - Google

For more info on Quad9 and some on Cloudflare see this Internet Society article. One of many on alternative DNS services and goes into a little detail on the security features they can offer.

Definitely let me know how things go with the Google DNS change. Name Resolution Failure errors as you pointed out in your logs typically point to DNS issues, so it will be good to know if there is a change here.

Good afternoon! When playing tracks from Tidal and the internal library located on the MacBook, tracks are periodically periodically loaded (up to 1 minute), then it can be played without problems 5-10-15 tracks, and then again 1-3-5 tracks are slowly loaded. Does the ping of google and the internal network usually show up to 10 miles of seconds, when switching tracks for up to 40 miles of second. Moscow time in picture 27.02.2021
