Description of Issue

Tidal Playlist will not shuffle: PlayNow button unresponsive, arrow down adjacent non-responsive. All other playlists shuffle.
This issue was raised in May several times; fix was purportedly being worked on. Six months later, apparently not resolved (at least for me).

Is it your own tidal playlist or a public one?

Playlists created by Tidal pose no problems. But, I created a playlist on Tidal (with Tidal account linked to Roon), and that personal playlist on Roon presents the problem.

It is a playlist that I created. Private. Qobuz playlists and Roon playlist enable shuffling and no problems. However, when accessing the Tidal playlist, PlayNow button and arrow down next to it are non responsive on Mac and greyed out on iPhone.

Is it just one playlist, easier to just recreate.
Or if many wait for support.

I only created one playlist so far on Tidal; so only one. I can copy the songs to a Roon playlist, but that does not solve the core problem, nor will it sync as I change Tidal playlist. And, when I create other Tidal playlists, the same problem will occur.

This problem was widely discussed back in May of last year on this forum: At that time, posts indicated it was a known problem. However, 7 months later, it should have been resolved.

Hi @Jonathan1,

Thank you for the report. The team will investigate account diagnostics and report back with troubleshooting steps shortly. In order for our diagnostic request to reach your Core (and return to our servers), please leave your Core online for at least an hour during the next day, if possible.

Not sure why or how this worked, but I deleted the playlist from Tidal. And, then I created it again from scratch. And, now it works in Roon ! I am able to shuffle the playlist. So, no need to diagnose now. Hopefully, it will continue to work. Appreciate the courtesy.

Computers just like to mess you about when they can.

I spoke too soon. The resolution did not last long. After quitting and relaunching Roon, I received an error pop-up message that a playlist could not load. Then, I went to the new Tidal playlist and, sure enough, the play-now button and arrow are non-responsive. Therefore, I cannot shuffle. I quit and re-launched Roon again: This time, the error message did not appear, but I still cannot shuffle because the Play-Now and arrow buttons are non-responsive. This is a personally curated playlist on Tidal. Qobuz playlists that I curate work properly.

Hi @Jonathan1,

If you’re still encountering this issue, let’s try a full database refresh. As long as you create a reliable backup per the steps below, this won’t erase or overwrite any of your library content, DSP settings, or other customization.

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Restore a Backup and verify if the playlist still causes hangs within Roon.

If the problem with Shuffle is recurring at this point, please provide us with an approximate timestamp and track name of the encounter, and we’ll open a case with development to investigate. Thank you!
