Transfer FLAC Files from Windows Laptop/USB Drive to Nucleus Rev. b (ref#KP2PN3)

Sorry that’s what I hate about all these threads, Trying to keep up…no I want it on the internal drive, I don’t like too many pieces in the chain of my system, plus usb is a not so great methodology

USB drive works just fine.

As I mentioned, Roon cannot do database backups to the internal drive, so you need an external drive anyway, or, keep another PC running and setup with a network share to use as a backup location.

It is not a back up, it’s loadingtransferring to the internal drive, Wade seems to feel it’s possible.

While I appreciate your opinion on USB.I disagree with you. And if it comes down to that then I’ll just sell my nucleus and find a core that will work better, I had no problems with my previous set up, the nucleus wasn’t in the mix then.

Thanks,

I think you are missing what I’m saying or I’m not explaining well. Assuming you get everything transferred over, in the future yiu cannot do database backups to the internal drive. You either need to backup the Roon database to an external drive or to a network location.

Dan,

I certainly understand that part, good to know, but that’s not want concerns me right now.

Thanks fir for the reply.

Randy

Thanks Jim, a question or 2 remains, what is the correct location?

Thank you

\\NUCLEUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

Like in your screenshot:

And in more detail, again the link (see under SMB Connection):

Hi, I know you are working to be helpful, much appreciated.

The problem is I am not a tech person and have never had to do this.

I need more guidance than trying to do a next step from a screen shot.

The flac file is in Roon’s internal storage but is not migrating/visible to roon, nothing happened except one file was copied, out of hundreds, then nothing.

You asked a quite precise question, what the correct location is, and I tried to provide the answer to exactly this question and nothing more.

In my post above at :

Step 5 explains how to navigate to the Nucleus internal storage using Windows File Explorer.

The image posted by you earlier and reposted by @Suedkiez above shows that you were able to get there at that time.

Alternatively, on your Windows computer, you can just enter:

\\NUCLEUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage
in the File Explorer address bar like:

I concur with Rugby.

Configuring network file sharing clearly and repeatedly is outside of Randy’s capabilities. He really needs to use just “sneakernet” to walk the external USB drive containing the music library from the Windows PC to the Nucleus and leave it physically connected, then walk the drive back to the Windows PC whenever he wants to add more local music.

AJ

Wadae, when the file was placed there yesterday, as I mentioned iponly 1 file moved over

Wade, Sorry for the typos, I file moved, nothing else

Hi, Jim,

Just did that, it seems to be doing something…sorry don’t know whatvto call the rotaing elipse when computer/roon is searching or workin.

When the file was dropped in was asked if I wanted to copy the files…the folder itself is not in the choose music storage folder, and I can’t tell if it’s adding the files.

Earlier people said to turn off the sftware, when I did that got a message “something not right” so turned it back on.

This sounds like you are running the Roon client application on your Windows computer whilst trying to do the file copy.

You do not need to do this. You should be copying files from one Windows file explorer window to another. The Roon Server should not be running whilst you do this and because the Roon Server is not running, the Roon client would have nothing to connect to if you were to launch it.

This is not a problem. When the file copy is finished, you can restart the Roon Server and then run the client.

Are you saying Jim’s advice is wrong and it wont-work?

No. We are both saying the same thing.

Your Nucleus watched folder location is the folder that is accessed using Windows file explorer and navigating to

\\NUCLEUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

Dragging files and folders to the windows file explorer window showing this location will copy the files and folders to the Nucleus watched folder location.

Jim,

Ok, but maybe your expectations of people should-could be tempered by thinking about that some people haven’t worked in windows in 3-4, years.

Community members may glory in their tech skills, and roon mastery, good for them that you and others dug in and mastered windows and roon.

I never cared to or had to in my careers…I’ m sure I could have done better.

As I said earlier my linux based roon server was able to easily find the flac files, and basically did all the work for me, so I had little reason to engage…frankly, I didn’t care to.

I made the incorrect assumption that moving to the Nucleus would affored the same ease of loading as before.

If some of the community believe I am an idiot, so be it, imho grace and understanding are both necessary when dealing with people and situations foreign to us. Technology doesn’t replace that, and I hope I will never see that.

One man’s observation.

Secondly

The folder still did not show up

Wade,

I finally got it to work, copying the file to the internal storage.

Once copying is complete, 11 hours from now, could you give me a quick run-down of the next steps in order for success?

Thanks for sticking with me!
