Hallo, i am trying to log into my roon app. but apparently some time along the way the perfectly fine working login was changed to a web redirect. but after login into the website the app is still not logged in. It looks like it is not only necessary to have a web login for a local app but also a data transfer from a web browser to the roon app O.O
since it is not possible to do so for me i kindly ask how to log into the app like it was always working before (without the need of a web browser and data transfer between my web browser and the roon app )
at first let me say thank you for your very quick response <3
yes i am currently on linux but i see to fail the point.
the application is currently not able to be used on its own.
i also tried it on a android tablet of mine which also has no web browser installed (the tablet is not meant for web browsing).
there i also cant log in
//EDIT1: ill look for an old phone where i can install roon and a web browser or if all fails setup a temporary windows VM just so i can login to my roon…
i think it would be good design if an app can function on its own. or if it has to be web validated at least do it like for example steam or github where you confirm the login on another device (or the same) but there is no need for direct transfer …
The main point is that they are not obliged to make things easy on an unsupported platform
The new login has been in place for a year and apparently other Linux GUI users could log in, so I guess there is a way.
I suppose if the specs say “Android”, they mean Android with basic default apps, not a zombified one. What’s the problem with having a web browser installed? As long as you don’t use it, it does nothing.
i dont want to derail this discussion
but a installed web browser can be accessed by other apps on the same system which is a huge security risk for a device which just does not need this function.
anyways thanks for your fast response!
ill try to get a new device so the purpose of login in my roon.
anyways i would love to see you reconsider this design.
or at least have a look into the examples like steam / git hub etc and maybe take them as alternative suggestions.
If an app wants to do do illicit network stuff, it does not need the default web browser for it. And as you surely don’t have such apps installed anyway …
Anyway, I think you just need the browser to log in and then it could be uninstalled again. But like I said, I didn’t myself use Wine since this has been introduced, so I might be wrong.
