I currently have one Sonos Move 1 speaker set up as an endpoint in Roon. I’m considering purchasing a second Move 1 to pair for stereo playback. How will Roon handle this? Will I still use only one Sonos endpoint for the paired Move speakers? I’m reluctant to make the purchase if it isn’t going to work well with Roon. Has anybody here faced such a scenario? I use the Sonos end point in my bedroom at home and also at a summer rental (the main reason I want to add stereo).
I didn’t know you could pair Sonos Moves (never occurred to me). However, if they pair natively in Sonos so that they are seen as a single zone in Sonos then they will be seen as a single zone in Roon. Roon uses a lot of Sonos native stuff - grouping, etc. So it generally plays nice. That said, up to you to verify they will pair natively within Sonos.
What I’ve heard from Sonos is that Move 1’s will pair for stereo, as will Move 2’s, but mixed versions will not.
I successfully added a second Move to my system in a matter of minutes. Then it was very easy to pair the two as one stereo endpoint with the Sonos app on my iPhone. This was one of those rare installs that went without a hitch.
Happy to hear. Sonos is actually very very good at the thing it does well, which is create a mesh network for audio devices. Subsequently managing music, playlists, etc, I personally don’t think they have done a great job with (cf the grand app debacle).
Your previous comment was just enough encouragement to push me to the decision that I had already made, to get the second Sonos Move. I’ve had difficulty with my original Sonos Move on occasion so today was a pleasant surprise. I thank you
That’s nice to hear. Glad to be helpful, really nice to hear. I love this community when it works!
I have a number of Ropieee (+ HQPlayer) zones in my homes, and a number of Sonos zones as well - generally ceiling speakers. I do use a single Sonos Move to bring outside. Everything has its place. What I think gets lost is that Sonos is really networking / hardware company. They make fabulous music networking gear, and not half bad speakers for the purpose. I do have friends who’ve built their whole home systems around Sonos, and given how much they love music, I find myself scratching my head, but I no longer try to be helpful / make suggestions / sell them on a “real” 2 channel system. To each their own!
