Issue 1: I have a Roon Rock and can no longer see it in Windows 11 explorer. I have tried all the solutions listed in the forum including changing the registry to allow insecure guest logins. etc. Nothing helps. I had this problem once before and those suggestions did help but this time, no such luck. Issue 2: I also just purchased a Roon nucleus one to use in my second home and intend to disconnect from my rock and use the same login for the Nucleus when I am in that home. I attached an internal 2.5" ssd which Roon says is watching for files real time. Problem is I have no idea how to move a copy of my own music files to that ssd. There is cryptic information that Roon asks for requiring smb.... I have no idea what that means or how to make that copy my files. If I could see that drive on Windows, I would just like to drag and drop. I need help to actually see Roon files on my computer.
I have done everything in these articles. I still do not see roon anywhere in file explorer. I formatted the drive in Roon and would want to add music to it but explorer cannot find it anywhere to access it. When I plug my Rock back in and use that as the server I have an internal ssd which also does not show up. Roon is a complete ghost on my Windows machine, even with doing everything that is supposed to make it appear. So as long as I never want to add more music, I am fine. I guess I would expect a more robust solution from Roon since everything else shows up on my computer, my TV, Sonos etc.
There may be two issues at play here (and I suspect it is the second):
Changes that Microsoft has made to security means that it is no longer possible to access Nucleus or ROCK folders. Then the Group Policy Editor of Windows can be used to work around this.
Windows File Explorer has a habit of not finding non-Windows devices in your network until it’s told to do so. So typing \\rock\ in the address field (note: NOT the Search field) of File Explorer will kick Windows into displaying it again. In this situation, mapping a Windows drive to a folder in the ROCK/NUC will pin it permanently in File Explorer as a drive on your PC.
Once I could see the internal roon storage in explorer all I had to do was drag and drop. Worked perfectly until the metadata improver has been hung up ever since. But that is another subject which I have reached out to support for.
