Description of Issue

I am unable to add a secondary storage device (watched folder), either via local machine (USB connection) or via SMB Share (Mac). All connections are hardwired in, the storage device I am trying to add is an external hard drive connected directly to the Mac. Whenever attempting to add the storage I encounter an unnumbered unexpected error.

Are you sure? Your screenshot shows that you have a Nucleus.

I am confused. What is your Core? You write in the first post that it’s a Mac Mini but your screenshot shows a Nucleus.

If the Core is a Nucleus, ideally attach the storage device to the Nucleus and then it should show up when you use Roon Settings > Storage > Add Folder. If you attach it to the Mac, you have to share the disk on the Mac and then you can add a network share on the Nucleus, but it would be a strange setup

Core is ROON Nucleus (4TB SSD). ROON APP is on Mac mini. In trying to add folder to watch, “unexpected error”, invalid path. When originally “imported” WAV and FLAC files to Nucleus 6 months ago, used same path, no problem. Sorry for confusion. Currently (now) using ChronoSync to “sync” Nucleus library to same usb SSD on Mac mini, appears to be working. I can use Chronosync to sync the two (2) folders in future, but the native ROON “watched folder” would be a nice feature to use. Thanks

I have a 1TB usb ssd attached to Nucleus for “backup”, usb on Mac is for copy of library not backup data

I’m still not clear on what it is you are trying to do, but if you are trying to add a storage location that is on your Mac as a Watched Folder in your Nucleus, then first you need to share the Mac’s storage location over the network so that it can be accessed by the Nucleus. See:

Usb is a smb shared drive, trying to have ROON “watch” folder to import new wav/flac files “ripped@, downloaded into it

Keep using ChronoSync – it’s usually ugly and may lead to unwanted/unexpected behavior to let Roon watch a remote location that is a personal computer or laptop (not always available).

Sorry for my ignorance but don’t understand “it’s usually ugly…”. ROON Nucleus is never turned off, same with Mac with external usb drive that files are ripped/downloaded to. ChronoSync seems to be “synching” the 20,000 “files”, onto 9 hours now and still going

That’s exceptional not usual. Most personal computers/laptops aren’t running 24/7.

I think the question was about …

… and I didn’t get it either

Apple Help article had no “new” info. Procedures were already in place as best I can tell. Still unable to “add” folder. Enclosed are screen shots of everything I think might be relevant. Any help in “fixing” my problem appreciated.

Sorry for the dbl click on 1 screen shot

I’m a Windows person, not a Mac user, so I may be getting this wrong. You seem to have the drive itself marked as a “Shared folder”.

I know that for Windows, I would have to mark a folder in the drive as a Shared Folder - and not the drive itself. You can’t add a drive as a network share in Roon, AFAIK.

Can you make the “Mac-mini” folder on that drive the Shared Folder and try adding that as a Watched Folder in Roon?

I don’t think you would want to have those “_Archived items” and “Automatically Add to Music” folders included in a Roon Watched Folder in any case…

Cleaned up the supe

Got rid of archived and other non needed files. Folder created to watch, not drive. Still error, invalid path. Giving up, will just import new files into ROON Nucleus from 1TB usb. Will use ChronoSync to sync drives. Worked file. Thanks for the help
