Unable to Chromecast, AirPlay, or connect WiiM Ultra to Roon (ref#79SJUI)

· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

I am unable to Chromecast from Roon to my LG C3 TV, connect my iPad via AirPlay to Roon or connect my WiiM Ultra to Roon.

Did you enable these output devices in Roon > Settings > Audio?

As for the iPad, you normally wouldn’t connect it by AirPlay to Roon at all. What are you trying to achieve there?

With Wiim ultra doesn’t support Airplay. LG TVs don’t support Chromecast to me knowledge. What are you trying to achieve exactly ?

The WiiM Ultra issue is separate and apart from AirPlay. It is Roon Ready, but it will not connect to the Nucleus.

I am trying to Chromecast the visual content on Roon to my TV. The person I hired to install my new AVR, TV and Roon told me that I would need to buy a Chromecast dongle, AppleTV or iPad to do this. I tried a Chromecast dongle and now an iPad with no luck.

If you want to mirror the whole Roon app to the TV, you need to use this:

With Chromecast:

  • On Windows, use the Chromecast feature of the Chrome browser, which lets you mirror the whole desktop
  • On Android phone/tablet, use the system Cast feature of Android

With AirPlay:
You can use the system AirPlay feature of all Apple devices to mirror to an AppleTV, again mirroring the whole screen.

All of this is independent of Roon, which doesn’t have any feature to cast/mirror the graphical app content.

@MaryBeth_Heydt, in addition to @Suedkiez’s recommendation, you also have the option, if your TV supports a compatible web browser, to display Roon via the TV’s web browser using this approach under “Web Display”:

Which, to avoid misunderstandings, only provides a display of what’s currently playing with images, album and artist. Maybe that’s what‘s desired, anyway.

Correct, I should have noted that my recommendation does not necessarily play the Roon stream through the TV, it just displays what is being played currently, as @Suedkiez explained.

It doesn’t see any of the other devices to add them in Settings. My phone doesn’t see the Nucleus either, although when I turn on my Eversolo, I can run Roon with it.

I think we need some more information. In particular, please clearly distinguish your various goals. Currently it’s audio, video, and control issues all jumbled together and difficult to understand what you are trying to do with each device.

Screenshots of what you see in each case would also help

Yes, that and the lyrics on songs which have this.

They do. I am Chromecasting a YouTube video from my notebook to my LG C3 (and my Roon Nucleus is right behind this TV) right now.

Ok, so not all the „visual content on Roon“ and just the „now playing“ display. Did you follow the instructions for that?

Yes, I have followed everything on the Roon website in terms of directions. Nothing works.

  1. Trying to get the Nucleus One to find and connect to the Wiim Ultra on my home network;
  2. Trying to get the Roon to find and recognize my LG C3 OLED SmartTV so I can see the album art and lyrics on lyrics enabled tracks on my TV while I am listening to music on my Eversolo A8 streaming DAC.
  3. Since the Nucleus doesn’t recognize these devices, there’s nothing to take screenshots of. Neither the TV nor the WiiM Ultra show up in settings for audio or display.
  4. The person I hired to set up my Roon was unable to get the Chromecast to work. He told me the only way it would work with the Roon was to buy a Chromecast dongle, an IPad or an Apple TV device. I have tried the 1st two with no success.

OK thanks. We’ll get to each of these points in time. For now, it seems that each issue individually can (and often is) related to network configuration issues. So that’s where I’d start first. Can you tell us how the network is set up and how everything is connected?

Hi @MaryBeth_Heydt,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. In addition to what @Suedkiez asked about your network I’d like to start troubleshooting by checking if your Nucleus is having a hardware issue. Can you connect a monitor to your Nucleus via HDMI and let us know what you see on the screen?

Hi @MaryBeth_Heydt,
A small update from our founder on Nucleus One and Titan availability in Europe. Nucleus - no european sales? - #4 by danny

I just tried to connect an HDMI cable from the Roon Nucleus to my notebook and nothing shows up. My Roon app on my phone is also telling me it can;t find my Roon. I am able to log into Roon on my laptop and share my screen on my TV and see the lyrics, etc. that way and play music on my Eversolo A8.
