Unable to Connect Roon Server on QNAP After Recent Update (ref#65X16R)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

My Roon server is running on a QNAP server. Since the last automatic update displayed on the remote control, the server version no longer seems to be running. I stopped it and restarted it, and I can see the Roon page from the QNAP application opening, but the status remains “Stopped” :

Roon Server

Status : Stopped
Version : 2.65 (build 1653) production
QPKG-Version : 2023-03-07
ffmpeg : Default

Describe your network setup

QTS TS 251+ / Version 5.2.9.3451 (2026/3/27) - LAN on a switch TPLINK connected to my router modem. The internet connection to my provider is by optic fiber (France RED - SFR)

This will probably help you.

Hi @Guillaume_Alleron,

With the last update, Roon has shifted support on QNAP devices to Docker-only.

Please follow the instructions shared here and let us know if you have any questions:

Hi @Guillaume_Alleron,

We don’t yet see an active docker-based QNAP in our diagnostic servers associated with your account. We’re going to assume you haven’t yet migrated the server to Container Station.

Please reach out if we can assist further. Keep in mind that this thread will auto-close due to inactivity without any further responses from the OP.

Hi there,

I haven’t been able to install the docker station, I need futher due please. I might be able to get enough time to proceed next week end. Could you please wait until that.

Thank you.

Hello @Guillaume_Alleron,

There is absolutely no rush!

We completely understand that migrating to a Docker-based setup is a bit of a project, especially if you are setting up Container Station for the first time. Whenever you have the time to tackle it this coming weekend, just pick up right where you left off.

If you hit any roadblocks, feel unsure about a step, or have any questions during the installation process, simply drop a reply right here in this thread. We will be standing by and ready to help you through it.

Have a great week, and we will look out for your update!

Hi,

I am ready to proceed. I have read all the step-by-step explanations, and everything seems clear to me, except perhaps for one point.

Would you recommend enabling the SMB option? What would be the pros and cons regarding future needs and potential cybersecurity risks?

I am not a specialist, but I have in mind that SMB is not always considered very secure and could potentially be exploited by hackers.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you.

Only enable Samba (SMB) if your music is hosted on an entirely different computer. You can change this later, and rebuild the container without impacting Roon history, settings, etc.

SMB can be secure, and since it is only used within your home network, there is no issue, unless you already have a compromised computer.

Hello @Guillaume_Alleron ,

Correct, SMB is only needed for access to other devices on the same network. Once you’re ready to migrate, let us know how it goes!

Hello @Guillaume_Alleron ,

We have not heard back from you, so we will go ahead and close this thread due to inactivity. If you need further assistance, please submit a new support request and specify that the issue be reopened. Thank you.
