“Roon server last seen1 day ago”. I’m travelling and have problems connecting to my nucleus. It worked fine until today. it says it’s the port forward issue? what to do?
Is it possible that the household power has been interrupted and the Nucleus is now powered down?
Is your network equipment reliable to the extent that you can be sure that it is all still working correctly? If your router crashes or a switch stops working, you may lose connectivity to your Roon Server.
Are there any issues with connectivty reported by your ISP?
Unfortunately, if any of these issues are the cause there will not be much that you can do until to get back home. If your ISP is having connectivity issues, ARC may start working again in due course (when the ISP fixes their issues).
I can’t really think of any other reason why ‘port forwarding’ would stop working whilst you were away from home.
Do you have external access to your router? If so, can you see whether the expected devices are still connected (most routers have a ‘connected device list’ page of some sort).
As a matter of interested, have you configured automatic port forwarding (uPnP or natPmP) or have you configured an explicit port forwarding rule? If the latter, is your Roon server either the subject of a ip address reservation in your router or on a static ip address? If not, and your router restarts for some reason, it is possible (but unlikely) that your Roon Server may be allocated a different ip address which would invalidate an explicit port forwarding rule.
Thanks for a quick response. Now when trying to connect, I see a glimpse, where it says that it saw my server some minutes ago. And then it starts trying to connect, but never succeed. A couple of days ago, I had success when connecting over 5G in stead of wifi, thereafter switching back to wifi. However, that doesn’t work from my current location. So it maybe that the network needs more “power”. A bit strange, because the wifi is fine for streaming everything else. Will try again later and again make sure that everything else is turned off.
thanks. that”s my challenge with arc. can’t be trusted to work consistently. fortunately tidal is always good….and i will be devoid roon for another 3 weeks….
Thank you for your post. We’ve pulled diagnostic logging from the Nucleus and can see the port test begin to fail starting on August 7 - the router no longer has an open port after what appears to be a network reset. The Nucleus did not power down, but it temporarily lost all network access, and the port assigned in the router’s UPnP stack is no longer open to the internet.
You’ll need to investigate why the router’s ability to port forwarding was terminated without your intervention. A power outage, followed by firmware reset on automatic restart, it a possible explanation. Another explanation would be an implementation change on the part of your internet service provider.
In any case, you will unfortunately need to restore port forwarding in order for ARC to re-sync with the server. This will require accessing router settings on your home network. Setting a manual port forwarding rule may help to retain the port when the router restarts in the future.
Many thanks for the explanation. While at home I’ve experienced similar problems, where suddenly I couldn’t connect, On my mac, I was experimenting with setting different ports, but unsuccessful. Found out that when this happens, I just have to restart the nucleus and without further ado everything works again. Quite annoying. so my concern was that when travelling the same would happen, and it apparently did. I am quite sure, that when I get back home, I will just need to restart the nucleus……strange why the port shuts down…
When you get home, we’d suggest investigating what Connor mentioned above as well:
This will likely lead to your longterm solution. I’ll go ahead and close this thread for now, but please do reach back out if you run into additional issues in your investigation!
