Unable to connect to Roon server after software upgrade on Rhein Z1 (ref#G6GGYG)

I would call the manufacturer to ask if they have any tips on how to get into the bios.

Hello @Jos_Brands,

I can certainly sense the frustration here. Trying to catch a BIOS screen a hundred times is enough to test anyone’s patience!

However, I have some good news based on your recent update: If your Rhein Z1 is currently booting “normally” and Roon is functioning perfectly in your home, you are indeed “out of the fire.”

The main goal of those BIOS steps was to bypass the “CMOS Checksum Error” that prevents the machine from starting up. Since you’ve managed to get into VitOS and Roon is playing music, the machine has successfully moved past that hardware hurdle. While the internal system clock might technically be off at the hardware level, Roon and VitOS are clever enough to sync with internet time servers once the operating system loads, which is why everything is working as expected.

Our recommendation at this stage: If it’s working, don’t touch it. Since the “digital gatekeeper” is no longer blocking your music, there is no urgent need to continue the battle with the Delete key.

If you ever find yourself completely stuck on that American Megatrends screen again and truly cannot bypass it, your best next step would be to contact the manufacturer (Silent Angel) directly. They may have a specific firmware tool or a “secret” key combination unique to the Rhein Z1 hardware that we don’t have access to.

For now, though, it sounds like you’re back in business. Enjoy the music!

What Vadim said.

However, I pulled out my old NUC which is also based on the AMI Bios. I started tapping the DEL key BEFORE actually turning it on. Try tapping the DEL Key and then turn on the PC while you continue to tap the key. In my case, I would never see the AMI screen, the BIOS screen would show instead.

Hello Vadim,

Great, that is very welcome news!!

I did contact Silent Angel some days ago but have not yet heard back from them. Anyway, indeed the music works so it’s time to turn up the volume and celebrate.

All the help from the Roon staff is very much appreciated.

With kind regards,

Jos

Hello Rugby,

Indeed, I did try that already too. I started tapping the Delete key before even pushing the power button. Alas, that didn’t work either.

I’ll take the advise from Vadim and hope that things keep working!

With kind regards,

Jos
