Unable to download Roon Remote app from Playstore on tablet (ref#RW9G3M)

Describe the issue

Playstore prevents download of the app with message that "the software does not function on this tablet". It is not possible to download Roon. Build 1496 was running problem free on this tablet but I accidentily deleted it and now I cannot reload the app.

Describe your network setup

The network is fully functional, Roon is running well on all endpoints. The app download is prevented.

Does your tablet run Android 9 or later? You can grab the current APK from Roon Lab’s download site too.

You may have to specify the tablet (name/model number/Android version) if it doesn’t work for you despite fulfilling the requirement (Android 9 or later, at least 2GB RAM) so others can look into it.

PS: The app is now called just Roon and no longer Roon Remote, could this be your issue?

Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue. Are you able to use the APK like @BlackJack suggested? If not please let us know what tablet you are using and the version of Android running on it!

Hi, thanks for starting support.
Hmmm, my Android is at 8.5. Sadly. An .apk finishes in the end with an abort by user altough I did not do anything after the install command.
How can it be that running Roon was problem free until I accidentally removed it? How to jump back to that situation?

(Roon Remote (Legacy) is not corresponding with the server and other devices.)

Get a new tablet that fulfills the requirements, there is no official way to get an older APK (version of Roon) from Roon Labs or Google.

PS: You can search the web and might get lucky.

The app probably did not get any updates for a while but remained able to connect to the Roon Server. My Android 8 tablet did the same, and is stuck at build 1442.

I discovered this morning that the latest 2.0.40 Roon release (build 1455) not only adds the banning of artists and albums but also the banning of older Android devices . Due to updated requirements from Google, Roon Remote on Android now requires Android 9+ I admit that my Pixel C, bought when I started using Roon back in 2016, is an old device, but hey, it sill works and who needs e-waste? For all others who are effected by this change I want to share that I’m running a project…

Hi Jan, I tried to install Roon build 1442 with Xapk on my Samsung T585 tablet that is on Android 8.1. After unpacking and a period of installing the actions stop with the message “User canceled (1)”
So far only dead alleys…

I see you’ve posted in the linked conversation above for input from other users; we’ll close this thread and allow the conversation to continue there, since there’s unfortunately not an official solution to installing Roon 2.0 on an older Android instance.
